Mirena moved?

Panicked this morning as couldn't find my mirena iud strings. Then found it but it seems very short - shorter than usual.

Didn't know whether I should call the Dr tomorrow to get it checked.

I do have an ultrasound scan booked for later in the week as I've been getting pain on my right hand side above my belly button and up towards my ribs. I thought it was a digestive or urinary tract thing. I'm now worried the two things are linked.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

For info, I've had the mirena in for over a year, it's my second one and not had issues before.

The strings went up on mine immediately. I was sent for a scan and the scanner said that I have a tilted womb, so I’m wondering if that’s why.
Anyway, mine then dropped lower but I knew because I had bleeding, no pain.
I really wouldn’t worry about it, they leave it in place if the strings have moved up.

My first Mirena moved and it was detected at my routine “six weeks post insertion” ultrasound.

The sonographer said it would still work fine and the only problem would be when I wanted to have it removed because I no longer had strings hanging down.

And boy did it cause a massive problem….but that’s a whole other thread 😂

At least you still have strings and I hope your pain isn’t related.

Thanks both.
ShelsStuck that sounds awful! Not sure I want to know how they got it out (or is it still in there?!)

The string is poking out of my cervix, definitely a lot shorter than it was. Worried it's slowly moving upwards.

If it does go up they just get it out via hysteroscopy in clinic. It doesn’t hurt.

No, that was 10 years ago now, I’ve had two children since.

Having it removed was pretty awful but thankfully the second Mirena had came out absolutely fine.

The Mirena is the only contraception I can use due to a health condition I have and so I had no option but to have a second 😬

Once Baby Number 2 arrived though my husband had a vasectomy as there was no way I was risking a lost Mirena again 😂

Despite all this, having a Mirena was brilliant! I had it for three years and I didn’t have periods so life was so much easier, so although there were complications when it came to having it removed, my experience of it otherwise was really good.
