Ovarian cyst options

I'm seeing the gynaecologist (who is incidentally a bit weird, a Big Davey as we say round here) and I can't think of the questions I need to ask. I have a 4cm cyst on one of my ovaries and they are thinking of removing it as it's not going away on its own. Do they take the whole ovary away? I'll obviously ask this, but what else???

Not always.

I had treatment last year. It also depends on what they are.

I had a solid 8cm one made up of teeth and hair and gross stuff on 1 ovary and it was cut out whole along with my ovary and fallopian tube which were all entangled in it.

My other ovary had some smaller liquid filled cysts which they popped to remove but my ovary was fine and kept in me.

I went into the operation knowing that loosing 1 ovary was almost certain, and that loosing the 2nd, or not, would be dependant on how the operation went.

Thankfully I kept one, so didn't experiance immediate surgical menopause, which was the risk.

Thank you @onetwothreeee We ended up deciding to leave things be for now and to have another scan next year and review things then. I was really scared about surgical menopause! Hope you're ok.

@WinkyTinky why are they considering removing it?

I've had a cyst that fluctuates in size usually between 4.5 and 6.5 cm I've had it for about 10 years, I've been advised I could have surgery but due to me being overweight and the risks involved plus the fact it's not guaranteed it wouldn't come back my agreement with the gynaecologist is to have annual scans and bloods to check on tumour markers at time I feel like a twisting feeling but I've been able to manage it so far.
Good luck with yours
