Dsis has Her2 positive breast cancer. Stage 2 and no lymph nodes involved. She had a wide local excision and 5 doses of radiotherapy. She was supposed to have chemo and Herceptin as well. Unfortunately after surgery she developed a pulmonary embolism and is now on anticoagulants. Her oncologist has said that chemo is now not an option as they feel the risks would outweigh the benefits, they are also refusing her Herceptin as they say it only works with chemo. So literally surgery and radiotherapy are the only treatments she’s had.
Im worried about this and so is she. She has a Her2 positive cancer, it’s not a great one to have 🙁 Herceptin was a great breakthrough for this type of cancer.
Does anyone know if Herceptin can be used without chemotherapy? Should she seek a second opinion? She’s 56 years old.
