Desogestrel and constant bleeding

I hope someone can help as I’m at my wits end with this! I’m in a new relationship and I’ve started taking desogestrel. This is month two, coming to the end of. Things started ok but I’ve now been either spotting or full bleeding for almost 3 weeks. Obviously this is annoying at the best of times, awful when you’re in the throes of seeing someone new!
has this happened to anyone else? Did it settle and if so when? Im so close to stopping them to be honest, it’s putting me in the worst mood.
I’m due to have the mirena fitted but that’s in two weeks and plus what if this happens on that as well?
the doctor just says wait and see but I’m having to wear pads everyday and I can’t have sex. It’s making me feel so down.
thanks for any advice you can give 😣

Its very individual I think, i bled every day for 6mo on the mirena but not a dickie bird on desogestrel

littlebirdieblu · 22/11/2023 06:59

I'm on this too it used to called cerazette. I bled for 3 months straight and was exhausted as I was just heavy bleeding all the time, or spotting. I went back to the doctor and he doubled my dose so I take 2 every day instead of 1. This stopped the bleeding and now I only have a period every few months. My sisters who are both younger than me both take 1 and never have periods on the same mini pill.

My body seems very sensitive to the time especially when hormonal. If it’s half hour difference I restart bleeding but if consistent with time it completely stops very heavy bleeding. It’s been a lifesaver for me.

OneForTheRoadThen · 22/11/2023 07:02

Yes it happened to me when I started taking it. I think it took about 5 months to settle down and now I rarely have periods.

Twoanklebiters · 22/11/2023 07:19

OMG really? I do take mine maybe with an hour difference every day as some days I get up earlier than others. Could it be that? Today the bleeding is heavy like a normal period

Little birdie I have just been reading that actually. I’m wondering whether to give that a go for the next two weeks and see if it helps. Can you remember how quickly it stopped the bleeding for you?

Worried to hear this happens on the mirena as well!

I am suffering the same as you but my fibroids are also a concern.

Doctor put me on it while I waited for a Mirena due to heavy bleeding and has advised me to continue to take it for a month or two while the Mirena settled in.

I've had constant heavy spotting / light bleeding unfortunately, ever since I've been on it.

The Mirena is now in so I'm considering stopping the pill to see what happens. Previous Mirena experience was a lot of bleeding for 6 months but it did eventually stop and then I didn't have any period the whole time I had one.

Twoanklebiters · 22/11/2023 08:30

SaintJuliette sorry you are having this too. I hope it settles. I must say 6 months of bleeding on the mirena fills me with panic. I’m waiting for a call back from the dr about doubling the dose

You might be the opposite to me though as im bone dry on just one desogestrel. I think you cant really predict, only try, and keep your doctor updated

GinBlossom94 · 02/07/2024 09:14

@Twoanklebiters did you resolve this? Sorry know this was a while ago but I'm having the same issue 2 months in to starting mini pill. 14 days of bleeding and I'm so bloated my jeans don't fit!

Same.. Wonder what happened and how we get the bleeding to stop

pinkwaterbottle9 · 09/08/2024 20:26

They recommend double dose to stop bleeding

BlueBobble · 09/08/2024 20:27

I had bleeding for about 5-6 months on an off. I've been on it for a few years now... no periods at all now and only very light very occasional spotting.

I do take it pretty strictly at the same time each day.

Mairzydotes · 09/08/2024 20:29

I gave up on it after about 2 packets as I was bleeding everyday
I was in a bad mood all the time too.

Interesting about the double dose thing . I wonder if double gets prescribed, or if people buy the others.

pinkwaterbottle9 · 09/08/2024 21:19

An extra tablet given on each day of spotting, a double dose for 3 days following bleeding, and an every-other-day double dose are all suggested methods for handling bleeding from oral contraceptives.

Pigeonqueen · 09/08/2024 21:23

I had spotting for about 5-6 months but kept on with it and now have no bleeding, ever. Not even a spot. Been on it about 8 years now.
