Positive for Ureaplasma

Hello,

I'm about to undergo a Hycosy test and had to have an STI clearing beforehand. It was all clear apart from Ureaplasma. I've never even heard of this and the OB didn't seem concerned. I have no idea how long I could have had this for as I've never been offered the test. The only thing that could be correlated is I am prone to UTIs and this is apparently a symptom. Im scared this could have affected my fertility and caused damage that can't be repaired now. Does anyone have any knowledge or stories to share of this?

I think ureaplasma can cause utis. Both you and your partner can be treated with antibiotics (usually doxycycline)

Spinkyttc · 22/11/2023 14:20

Yes that's what we are doing, we both have a course of Doxycycline to take and to abstain from sex until the course is finished. The OB isn't concerned at all but from reading online I'm worried as I have no idea how long I've had this for and I'm scared it has caused lasting damage :(

Hello
im wondering if Ureaplasma affects embryos already produced (now frozen)
we did a cycle and have 5 embryos frozen. We tested for ureaplasma etc after this cycle as fresh transfer didn’t work.
Ureaplasma came back positive.
We took doxy for 2 weeks, retested and tests were negative.
However, now I’m worried about the frozen embryos and will they be affected by the initial Ureaplasma infection from the sperm?

I'm afraid I can't help with this as I don't know, I'm sorry x

Thanks @Spinkyttc thank you so much for replying!! I am on the two week course now and will make my husband take the same.

Are you UK based how did you keep getting tested for ureaplasma? I did it privately via vaginal microbiombe but wondering if GP can do follow up tests? Thanks

So I had the test done privately in November before my Hycosy. I then did a follow test which I ordered privately online and if came back negative x

Hey sorry was it 2 weeks of doxycycline you took? I've tested positive and my gp only wants to give me 1 week and not treat DP eyeroll

AnxiousPoster · 11/09/2024 18:51

@DancingGerbil i took 2 weeks of doxy and treated my husband too. I did a retest and it was negative thankfully haven’t managed to conceive again yet but hoping my luck will change. You can order doxy via Superdrug online.

Hi all, sorry to bump up an old thread but wondered how you got on - did the ureaplasma stay away after being treated?

also TTC and tested positive for ureaplasma, waiting to hear what dr says

Hi, I’ve never suffered with it again, never had any symptoms and no UTIs x
