I’ve recently been told by my GP that I’m not longer able to continue with the combined pill due to my high blood pressure. They’ve given me some alternatives to consider so I was wondering if anyone could share their opinion on any of the following:

Coil - IUS
Implant

injection
progestogen only pill

I’ve read up on these & some of them I am really put off by due to the possible side effects. I’d be grateful if people could give me their views if they’ve used any of these.

Thanks 😊

I can't takenthe combination pill due to migraines.

I have tried the coil, it worked well for me first time, no real issues just.pain for a few months after fitting (but I hadn't had children then so fitting can be uncomfortable in this case) had no other problems. For some reason when I had it after my daughter it turned me into mad hormonal women. So had it removed symptoms went away after removal. (This was the coil with hormones, I've never tried a copper one)

I tried the injections, this cause almost constant light bleeding even after 4 months, so I stopped it. Then didn't have a period for 6 months, this really isn't a good option if want children/more children at some point as you can see I can take a while to totally wear off.

The mini pill I've taken successfully, again though had light bleeding issues. But I have very heavy periods normally and think this makes this more likely. But I'm back on it now for heavy periods/pain and it does help.

The only one I haven't tried is the implant, which after my experience with the injections decided I would try it as was worried if I had issue they may refuse to remove it. After hearing some horror stories on that one.

Thanks @MigGirl thats super helpful. I’ve been put off by the implant & injection after some of the things I’ve read online & that I’ve heard previously. As it stands I’m swaying towards the mini pill at the mo!

The trouble is that everyone’s affected differently so what works well for one woman might not suit another. I wish there was an easy answer!

I currently have the implant but I’m considering getting it removed as I have 0 sex drive and am suffering with low mood and anxiety which I think may all be due to the hormones. But I had no trouble with the implant pre-dc so maybe I’m imagining it. Wondering about a non-hormonal option eg copper coil but am terrified of the pain of having it inserted.

The easiest one to stop is the mini pill so I'd try that first. I used the cerazette mini pill for a few years and then got the mirena coil
