Spotting/cervical ectropion

Hi, was wondering if anyone experienced anything similar...for the past few months I have been experiencing mid cycle spotting. I put it down to ovulation bleeding and tried not too worry.
Went for a smear around 6 weeks ago the nurse told me she see ectopy around my cervix and said those could be causing spotting. She said nothing to worry about really common. My smear came back clear.
This did temporily put my mind at ease however, this month I started experiencing brown stringy discharge and more CM than usual with blood streaks (sorry tmi) this started about 3 days before ovulation. That was around 5 days ago and I'm still having spotting on and off. It seemed to settle and was more pinkish for a day or two but it's now brown again and I am feeling a bit crampy.
Does this sound typical of a cervical ectopion? Has anyone experienced anything similar?
I havent contacted the doctor as yet as was putting it down to the cervical ectropion but going to give them a ring tomorrow as starting to wonder if it could be something else.
I should add I am 38, not on birth control and never bleed after intercourse.

I also have very similar symptoms but haven't been told I have cervical ectropion. On a very long waiting list to see gynae as g.p doesn't know what is causing it. I have a mirena coil, but have had no problems with it and had one previously too. I've had the same symptoms for over 6 months now, plus severe cramps/pelvic pain. Sorry not to be of any real help, replying mainly to say your not alone in this. Oh, I'm 36 btw.

Have you done a pregnancy test?

SillyMilly85 · 07/11/2023 21:00

@ChubbyChinook Thank you for replying and sorry to hear you are experiencing similar. Thankfully my cramps are very mild at the moment. It's strange as a lot of similar post i have saw seem to be women in mid to late 30s which makes me wonder if it's possibly hormone related but here's hoping we have a good while to go before we need to worry about the dreaded menopause. Hope you get some answers soon x

@WetBandits thanks for replying. No I hadn't even considered this. Although it's unlikely I am pregnant as had normal period a few weeks ago and haven't had unprotected sex since. X

hi there, I’m 34 and have been spotting randomly across the month, sometimes heavier than spotting for three years! I seem just bleed randomly, sometimes it goes on weeks!
I have been seen by 2x nhs gynaes, 1x private gynae, I’ve had an ultrasound, a smear, a hysteroscopy and a coil fitted. This was idone in January . The coil has stopped my periods but instead I just spot every few days and get cramp. Sex seems to make the bleeding worse. No one seems to be worried but I can’t live like this for another three yet? Xx

SillyMilly85 · 10/11/2023 14:11

@Mrsworried1 that sounds like a nightmare and very frustrating. What have the doctors said is wrong? Have they diagnosed a cervical ectropion?
My spotting seems to have settled just now but I'm keeping a close eye on it. Strangely I never bleed after sex.
I really hope get some answers soon... at least the doctors don't seem worried. X

theyve always said I have a slight ecropion but not enough to be causing this bleeding x

Hi @Mrsworried1 I am in exactly the same position as you - I could have written your post myself. Did you ever solve the issue?

WeeGreenJumper · 18/05/2024 21:47

I was just thinking about posting a thread on spotting but saw this and thought I'd post here, sorry I can't help op but really worried myself, am 39, never experienced spotting before, and have had bright red spotting in underwear the last two days immediately following going for a run (easy pace, nothing massively strenuous). No chafing or grazing, no blood when wiping, etc. at beginning of luteal phase. I'm going to phone GP on Monday but wanted to see if anyone had experienced anything similar. It's so out of the blue and it's freaked me out a bit.🙁

Edit- also on no hormonal contraception but definitely not pregnant, periods fairly regular, spotting v different from period blood

Lollyl88 · 18/05/2024 22:28

@WeeGreenJumper hello. I've not experienced spotting in this way but I'd go to your gp just to get checked out :) I've been checked - coloscopy and scan but they can't seem to find anything wrong. Which is good but also frustrating!

Cheshiresun · 19/05/2024 23:22

Yes, I have it and bled throughout pregnancy because of it. I don't bleed now as I'm taking the POP which seems to stop it. Apparently once you've had the menopause the bleeding stops, I'm hopeful that it does anyway.

Lollyl88 · 20/05/2024 06:11

Hi @Cheshiresun. Thanks for replying. What is the POP please?

Hi @Lollyl88 no not really. Had an ultrasound, then a hysteroscopy. Nothing found. Never had a colposcopy. They gave me a coil. Has helped the flow, but not how often I spot. I am sick of it? Been almost 4 years of this spotting constantly xx

Hi @Mrsworried1 how are you getting on? Are you still having the bleeding?
