Good morning all,

I am looking advice on what might happen next. I noticed a lump in my breast last week and had my GP appointment yesterday. She seemed very concerned and referred me to the breast clinic. I will be seem within 2 weeks. She said it is 5-5.3 cms and irregular.

Suddenly this morning I feel very worried, does anyone have advice? Should I be worried?

@Blinky06 Of course it’s natural to worry although not all breast lumps are cancerous. You can’t change the diagnosis so what will be will be, just try and concentrate on knowing that you are in safe hands now and will be thoroughly investigated at the clinic and told the likely outcome. Do you have anyone to go with you?

Try not to worry - remind yourself that worrying serves no positive purpose. The NHS breast clinics are amazing and they will get to the bottom of it quickly and, if necessary, put your treatment plan together. I’ve been where you are multiple times, mostly cysts but unfortunately I was once one of the minority for whom it was cancer (I think the figures used to be 9/10 referrals are benign). I’m fine now and it’s been more than 5 years. Best wishes, be kind to yourself and be glad you’ve found it and got the referral booked in.

Thank you both xx

My husband will come with me @Xrayspeccyspecs , I am very worried about him and my son but I know I will have to take things as they come. I was thinking that the Dr would say it's probably a cyst but she didn't mention that. She just said she was concerned and it is large. I logged into my GP portal and read lump with irregular edges 5-5.3 cm and panicked a bit.

I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine. I am pleased that you are well now @madrush .

Thank you both for your kind words.xx

I'm in a similar boat OP. I've been to the breast clinic a few times, it's always been nothing to worry about. The clinics are great, in that you will likely know on the day if it is something concerning. Most women are sent on their way that day, I always have been.
I visited my GP on Friday regarding a new lump, and the hospital phoned me this morning with an appt for 21st Nov - I'm pleasantly surprised by how quickly things have moved (read a lot of horror stories regarding waiting times and even GP warned it might be longer than 2 weeks). Hopefully you will hear soon too.
I felt lighter after visiting the GP - I've been putting it off for a while but it is out of our hands now, I certainly felt relief after I effectively handed the problem over to someone else.
Also follow the golden rule of don't google!

I was treated for breast cancer two years ago. I hope if you need treatment you have a similar experience to mine. I cannot praise the NHS enough for the care I received. All the doctors and nurses were so kind, patient and understanding, they really were amazing. From my first appointment I was given so much information and felt confident that whatever I had to deal with it would be ok. Waiting for results is really hard but once you know what you are dealing with you have something to focus on. Please be reassured that most women referred to the breast clinic are for benign reasons but if you do need treatment breast cancer has one of the best success rates and you will be in the best hands. Good luck for your appointment, I hope you don't have to wait too long.

Thank you @steppingcarefully , I was given my appointment today for 2 weeks time. The wait will seem very long I think but I'm sure everything will be ok. I will stay positive even if I need treatment. It's great to hear that you had such good treatment and are are well now. It really helps to hear your positive story.x
