Can Levothyroxine be taken with Utrogestan?

Hi all,

I'm beginning to feel as though I'm rattling!

I've just started HRT, and my GP has also prescribed Levothyroxine. As part of the HRT I take a Utrogestan tablet at night.

Do any pharmaceutical/medical people out there know whether I can take them both together? I know that some things can interfere with absorption of Levothyroxine. I'd rather not have to take the Levothyroxine in the morning because it needs to be taken an hour before breakfast/coffee and I'd rather not have to wake up at 6am to take it and then try to get back to sleep.

Any help gratefully received.

I just take my levo in the morning and it's fine. Possibly it means I am on a slightly higher dose than otherwise I would be, but as long as you are consistent with how you take it I don't think it matters much.

Sorry, I don't know about utrogestan though. I take that at night, great for sleep!

You can take Utrogestan in the morning with the gel. Don't know about Levo.

This is what I do too.

I took both while doing ivf, noone mentioned any potential issues.

Utrogestan makes some people sleepy so better at night if you can.

Thanks everybody for helping.

I'd like to stick with the Utrogestan at night as I could do with some decent sleep and it's meant to help.

Those of you who take Levo in the morning - do you take it an hour before breakfast?

@LeakyPipes I take my levo in the am
but only 30 mins before I eat.

No info on the other med.

PosterBoy · 24/10/2023 20:01

I just take it when I wake up so I probably have a coffee about 15 minutes later. I do eat later but that's just preference, nothing to do with levo
All that matters is consistency

LeakyPipes · 24/10/2023 21:03

Thank you both ❤️

I switched to taking Levo at night and a couple of weeks later I couldn't sleep. Tired but not tired (weird). Took me a while to put 2 and 2 together Blush switched back to taking it in the morning and a week later I was sleeping fine.

I take mine in the morning with breakfast and with milk. I figure it makes no difference if I absorb less, I'll just get prescribed a higher dose. Been doing it for 30 years so far...

BigGapMum · 25/10/2023 09:35

NHS recommends that you take Levo in the morning ideally 30 minutes before any food or drink, to increase absorbsion, which is what I do. I take my Utrogesten at night. I've not had any problems with this.

showmethegin · 25/10/2023 09:52

I was on thyroxine with utrogesten while pregnant, it was recommended by the dr so I'm sure it's fine

Pigeonqueen · 25/10/2023 09:54

I’m on 22 medications a day for various autoimmune issues. I take my thyroxine around 7am and spread the rest of my meds out throughout the day and take utrogestan at night.

Pigeonqueen · 25/10/2023 09:55

Just to add, I take mine shortly before breakfast with a tea and have no issues at all. Been on it 20 years now. Bloods always fine etc.

cardibach · 25/10/2023 09:58

I do. It's presumably in your notes that you take both so if there were an issue the doc would say - or mine would have.
