I’m really struggling with the amount of bleeding I’m having , I’m also loosing massive clots like the size of side plates , is this normal for fibroids ect , I have bloating too and I also have a woosh of blood where I’m flooded down my legs , lose a massive clot then zero bleeding for hours and hours , then bleeding and a whoosh , im freaking out , I’ve been to a&e a few times and each time I’m sat in the waiting room covered in bloood so embarrassed and they give me trannsamic acid and send me on my way . I have an appt with gynaecologist at the end of the month . Just would like some reassurance if possible , and any advice , I can’t leave the house as I don’t know when the woosh will happen or when I will be heavy , im averaging 25 pads a day :(

Sorry to hear that. That sounds incredibly hard to live with. The way you've written makes it sound like this is a change from your normal cycle? It's really good that you have an appointment to see a gynaecologist as they'll be able to check what's going on and give you some reassurance and treatment options. While you're waiting for your appointment maybe book a GP appointment to see if they can prescribe you something to help with the bleeding in the meantime. Mine prescribed tranexamic acid, the same as what you were given at A&E. There are a few different treatments for heavy bleeding, with more if you don't want (more?) children. Your GP/Gynae should talk you through them.

Maybe in meantime also try doubling up on sanitary protection. A menstrual cup could help? That along with a pad at same time as period knickers.

This might sound grim but take photos of what is coming out. Friend was fobbed off by Dr for years with 'heavy periods' - only taken seriously and referred on for investigation and finally massive fibroid removal after showing pictures of being stood in the bath with clots, flooding etc all over the place.

Sad that she wasn't taken seriously before that though.

I have fibroids and bleeding similar to how you describe. I am on the NHS list for surgery.
I manage it by tripling up on protection; ultra tampon, a pair of knickers with a big pad, and then period knickers over the top. I change that tampon as often as I can, sometimes every 45 mins (the pad and period knicks are my back-up; I don't know how you are managing with pads alone.)
Tranexamic Acid helps a lot on the heaviest days.

Take photos. Insist on a scan.

They might try suggesting a coil. I refused this as I wanted them to address the cause of the bleeding.

I'm now 6 months on from a hysterectomy and haven't looked back.
