Inadequate colposcopy results

Hi, hoping this is the right place to post. I just called the colposcopy clinic and the receptionist said the notes say my biopsy came back as inadequate. They want me to go back in 3 months for a repeat, and she mentioned something about ‘TZ absent’ ???

I have asked for the nurse to give me a call back as I’m very confused what this means. Is this good or bad? :(

Hi @llihl13 . It is neither good nor bad I believe. I am no medic , but what they have told you seems to mean there were not enough cells on the sample sent to the lab for them yo do any meaningful test on. You will need to have a further smear/pap, as the first one was invalid.

Thanks, I spoke to the nurse and she sort of confirmed that. She said they managed to get a sample from the surface of my cervix but not in the inner canal so they’ve called me back to retest. (Apparently it can be harder to test inside if you’ve not had any children which I haven’t).

Just unsure what this means for me in terms of TTC now..

The BSCCP is a useful source of information https://www.bsccp.org.uk/women/information-about-colposcopy
in terms of TTC, it depends on why you were referred to colposcopy.
If you can speak to the nurse again, then I suggest explaining that you’re planning to TTC and would like to know whether the investigation affects that.
