What just happened?

Started my period yesterday evening, super light just a bit of blood on a pad.
went out with the kids this morning and the bleeding was like a more normal period. Used a regular tampon and a pad, got home 3 hours later and both needed changed but somewhat normal for day 2 bleeding.
Then got totally stuck in the bathroom for 30 minutes with blood trickling out of me. I tried to put a tampon in a couple of times but the blood was just seeping around it. When I would take a tampon out they were covered in mid size clots.
anyway, just a blood bath for 30 minutes. Bleeding slowed, climbed into bed, felt quite dizzy which has now stopped. I’m freezing with lots of layers and a hot water bottle.
i think being dizzy and cold is shock rather than blood loss or anything.

Ive had a bit of flooding before like a sudden gush (hence always having a pad as back up with a tampon) but not just uncontrolled for half an hour.

has anyone had similar? Is it likely to happen again?

The feeling freezing cold is a very bad sign, it could be sepsis due to stuck/retained tissue. Theres been threads like this where women had the same experience and almost died. Please ring 111 ASAP.

Apologies to panic anyone. It’s been an hour since it stopped and I’ve now warmed up other than extremities.

yes, just realised I’d posted under this username. I’ve had generally heavy periods for a while but not an ‘episode’ like this.
