Would B12 levels show in full blood count?

Hi there.

I went for a blood test at my GP's on Thursday. She was checking for low B12 levels, and generally for other things that might explain me feeling tired, woolly-headed etc.

I was surprised and impressed to get a text as soon as the following morning telling me my thyroid and Vit D levels were a bit low.

Nothing was said about B12, though. Does the test for that take longer, or would it be something that a non-medic like me might not recognise from the test results (which are in my GP app)? I'm really just wondering whether we might still be waiting for the B12 results.

Many thanks for any help :)

It can show up in a full blood count, the size of the red blood cells would be abnormal (MCV) and hematocrit would also be out of range, odd for them not to do an actual b12 blood test to check the levels though.
It doesn’t take longer for those results.

My B12 and folate levels always come back (as a combined test) separately to my thyroid (one test) vit d (another test) and FBC (another test) and I think from memory b12 takes longer depending on if they're testing serum or active b12 so I expect you'll get that next week instead

Thyroid is one test.

Full blood count is another.

Vit D another.

Haematinics is another - folate, ferritin and B12.

So might not be back yet. Should be quick though, it’s not a non standard test.

You have to order a b12 specifically, it's not part of the FBC bloods

A FBC will indicate if B12 could be low as first poster says.

maybe they are doinf FBC first to see if b12 teat is warrented

Thank you very much, all. Very much appreciated :)
