I had major surgery three weeks ago- it was a partial hysterectomy. I’m only youngish but needed it done. Prior to having it done I had bloods, ultrasounds, MRIs etc..

Anyway, rewind approximately six months from now and I had an Ultrasound for something unrelated . It was discovered that I had kidney stones in both kidneys. Mention of a urologist meeting; nothing materialised and my gynae health took priority anyway.
When they did my surgery I was told that findings were being presented to pathology. That was three weeks ago.

Now, this morning, I received a phone call from the hospital asking me to come in for a CT scan this week. Explained I can’t really walk still and am still in a lot of pain and so it’s scheduled in for a couple of weeks time .
I asked who had requested this and they said it was the consultant in urology. I am confused and worried- do you think results have come back from pathology following my surgery and they want to check me all over? Do they share information between departments?
How come it’s so late after the ultrasound and also , don’t you normally meet with a consultant before a diagnostic/ treatment plan is decided?
Or am I overthinking this? I have lots of symptoms still and have continued to feel unwell and now panic is added to the mix.

Does anyone have any suggestions please and apologies for the longest post. Thank you for reading.

I think you might be overthinking tbh. DH had an ultrasound and has kidney stones. Without seeing anyone he later got called for an MRI scan. They have the ultrasound report, they know you need a scan, it seems over kill to have a consultation for them to tell you they need a scan iyswim. Better to save the consultation for when they have some to discuss.

Re the pain you are in, was it open abdominal hysterectomy?

Thank you for your reply. I am just worried - especially as pathology was mentioned after the surgery.

Sorry your DH has kidney stones, hope he’s doing okay.

Yeah still worrying about it the more I think though I guess it’s overthinking.

Surgery was laparoscopic so recovery meant to be quicker but it has been quite wicked .

I think they have looked at your case and decided to do the scan first, rather than you going for an appointment and then needing it. It’s about saving appointments and money.

They do ultrasound, them mri and x Ray. They can do laser treatment on them and put in stents into your kidneys.

Oh okay, that’s interesting, thank you. It’s both Kidneys. Sorry for being ignorant but what are stents in kidneys ?

So does anyone think this is all anything to do with recent surgery ?

What’s worried me is the timing . So could it be connected do you think?

If you are still in such pain you need to discuss it with someone. I had a total hysterectomy and wasn’t in too much pain at that stage. are you doing the physio and walking a little each day? I think that really helped tbh, it built my strength up and I recovered far quicker than a friend who didn’t do anything. It’s definitely worth speaking to someone though if you are sill in such pain. I hope things ease for you soon.

I don’t think they are. DH actually has stage 4 cancer, his scan and MRI are unrelated as he’s already had CTs and an MRI on the area of his cancer, and a previous full body MRI prior to radiotherapy. They really don’t seem to talk to each other.
