Free fluid and Cyst on Ovary

Hello,
I just wanted some advice and reassurance. I've had free fluid in the pouch of Douglas in previous ultrasound scans dating two years back. I had another ultrasound recently and they found a simple cyst on left ovary, which I've never had previously and also free fluid again in the pouch of Douglas.

I had an ultrasound because I was getting pain during intercourse and also when I go for a poo and wee.

I've googled, and I shouldn't have, but all sorts of horrible scenarios are running through my mind. My GP has sent me a message saying I have been referred for a routine gynaecology appointment. My mind keeps going to cancer and that it's been there for over two years and they didn't pick it up.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice or reassurance? Would be ever so grateful.

i didn’t have a cyst but I had a follicle which should have ‘dissolved’ according to my cycle which had not. This presented as a cyst and at my recent scan it has gone. I always have free fluid in my pouch of Douglas so don’t try to worry too much x

Thank you for your reply. The lady who did the ultrasound has scared me by saying the fluid needs investigating. Did your Drs say the fluid can be normal?

Did they not give yoy a reason for why the fluid is there? I know a couple of years back, the sonographer said it could be due to ovulation so I didn't think anything of it. But this time the lady said it was there over 2 years ago and it's still there.

I was told some free fluid is normal. Where in your cycle were you?
