Worried about HPV found in smear as mum has cervical cancer

Hoping someone has knowledge of this that can help

I had a smear on 3rd July, results came back via letter on 23rd Aug to say my sample was tested for high risk HPV. Results show that "although this was found, we have not seen any changes in the cells of your cervix at this time" and invites me for another cervical screening test in 12 months to check HPV has cleared
Fine - I was just going to wait on the app coming for next year

However, after mum having a tumour removed and a partial hysterectomy 4 weeks ago, my she was diagnosed on Thursday with Stage 1 Cervical Cancer. She had another operation yesterday

I've called my gp to ask if I need any more tests or smears sooner and if I am more of a risk now since this diagnosis with mum. They are busy so I'm on a call back list. But would appreciate if anyone can help in the meantime please?

Thank you x

In case anyone comes across this - my gp called me back this evening to say they are not involved with the process of the cervical cancer screening scheme however, they don't need to do another smear test based on my mum now having cervical cancer and that checking again in 12mo time is fine

Glad they reassured you and I hope your mum is doing OK.

Thank you @Iwasafool everything has happened very fast for mum but she's been so lucky to have caught it so early and hopefully she doesn't need treatment but we will find out in a couple of weeks. We're all still in shock

Thank you xxx

I had cervical cancer when I was 20 it's really straightforward to treat, please don't worry.
