HPV and CIN3

Hi so just to give a bit of background - I’m 24 years old and went for my first smear test a couple of months ago. I got my result and was told I was HPV positive and mild changes to cervix. I went in for the colposcopy and the doctor told me he can see mild changes but he would take a biopsy because it looks likes it’s in a few places - just to confirm.

around this time I also found out I was pregnant and my decision was difficult already as I have a few health issues so I was very undecided.

anyway, when I went in for my follow up consultation I was expecting the doctor to just confirm what he has seen. But he said they found severe changes to cervix - CIN3. He told me if I was to continue my pregnancy I would have to wait 3 months after giving birth to be treated or if I was to terminate id have to wait at least 6 weeks. I was veryyy shocked with this and felt it was too much to take in.

so I made the decision to terminate the pregnancy as it seemed too risky to me to continue with the pregnancy when there is over 45% chance of it progressing. Anyway so now I have to wait 6 weeks min to be treated. I’m super worried that this is something that I’m going to suffer with my whole life.

I was wondering if any of you have any experience in this and any guidance or help. And also, once the cells are treated if there is anything I can do to boost my immunity and hopefully the HPV will leave my body.

thank you :)

Thank you, your message has made me feel a lot better, the reason was because I was scared of it progressing esp knowing it progress a lot faster during pregnancy and the only other place for it to progress to is the big C. It seemed sensible to do and my doctor reassured me that it would have no impact on future pregnancies. But tbh I don’t think my doctor was very helpful in explaining every thing to me (I’m on private healthcare) so I’ve asked to be sent for a 2nd opinion with a women as I feel like she would be more careful with the removal of cells.
that sounds really hopeful I’m glad it worked well for you. Honestly I’ve been trying to adopt a healthy lifestyle for so long this is my big push to actually do it!
and that’s my biggest fear a hysterectomy I’ve been reading online of women who had done leltz and it kept coming back so they had to have it done. But right now I have to just take one step at a time and focus on what I can control. Also I think stress also plays a big part in it.
would you recommend anything else ?

The story reminds me of my aunty, she had never done a smear before and by the time she figured out something was wrong the cancer had progressed too far. She has only ever slept with one person aswell. But again it’s why it’s so important to be tested and keep on top of everything to avoid the worst outcome

@honeybooboo29 it sounds like you made the best choice you could in a really awful situation. Definitely go for a female doctor if you feel more comfortable with that.

As for anything else I’d recommend; I would say to ‘feed your soul’. It sounds corny but feeding your soul with whatever you truly desire is the best way to alleviate stress and that will be fantastic for your immunity. Feeding your soul could mean curling up with a book and a hot drink, it could mean going on a clubbing holiday, it could mean learning something new like dancing or cooking or it could mean staying with family for a while or joining a gym. Only you know what you’ve always wanted, it could be anything really. Now is the time to live by your true desires. That will massively help your stress levels and therefore help your recovery.

@honeybooboo29 I know this thread was resurrected by a troll who was deleted but it’s odd as I was thinking about you and wondering how you were doing
