Spotting 2 years after Mirena insertion

Morning all. I'm 48, on HRT for 3 years and had the coil for 2 years.
I've been tracking in an app as for last 6 months or so I have been spotting and although it's not monthly as such there seems to be a vague pattern. Today I've put a liner on as it's a big more in volume (sorry ) but not enough for a pad and not nearly enough for a tampon. It's like the very start of a period iykwim. I have health anxiety so Googling is not my friend. I'll book an appointment but did anyone have similar and not have a horror story ?

Yes, I did. The gynaecologist did some checks and it was fine. She said it was likely a very mini-period, given it was (vaguely) cyclical. I haven't bled for about two years either, so very similar to you.

I would get it checked though.

Thanks. Heart rate coming down a bit. Mine are vaguely cyclical too when I look at the app. Vaguely but I see a sort of pattern

I've had Mirena for 6 years now. I used to get intermittent regular spotting as you describe - especially in summer. I had every incident checked out at the clinic but it was all normal. They scanned to make sure Mirena was in place and looked at tracking of bleeding.

It's almost certainly hormonal and nothing to worry about but you are right to make an appointment.

Just to say I have health anxiety about this and the clinic / gynae staff have never made me feel bad about getting things checked out. They always want to investigate unexpected bleeding even if it's usually benign. So don't hesitate to contact them.

I'm currently having this very thing investigated. Mine has steadily become heavier though, and is every 3 weeks or so.
I've had an ultrasound which confirmed my mirena is in the right place, and I have a couple of small fibroids.
Waiting for GP to confirm if anything further is needed or if I just need to put up with it!
(I'm not on HRT)

I had a cyst a while back and before that has cramping type pains.
Looking back to last week I was typical PMT ish. Are my own body weight in chocolate, sore nipples like when I was pregnant and bloated. Just like old times before a period. I'll ring docs tomorrow and am due a smear so will get that sorted too. Joy!

I’m getting this at the moment but have t tracked it. Intermittently get a tiny amount of spotting, think I feel a few cramps and boobs hurt. Had mirena in for about a year now and nothing for first few months. I am 48 and on patches also. Wondering whether it’s when my period would have been but since I guess I’m peri menopausal difficult to track. I’m terrified of cervical cancer and suffer with horrendous health anxiety. Dr looked at my cervix few months ago and said fine. I just get anxious when this light spotting occurs. I don’t trust the cervical screening anymore since they changed it!!!!!@mirenableeding @Allthegoodusernamesareused @FKATondelayo

Same here and I think it's when my own cycle would have been due and maybe would have been heavier (my friends sans coil are experiencing heavier bleeding )

Glad to have found this thread. I'm same age as you, OP and experiencing this too. I'm on HRT with no period at all for over a year after having a mirena, then I upped my HRT dose and it seems to have unleashed a monthly bleed and random cramping.

Not sure how long to leave things to settle before checking it out. Having had various gynae issues in the past, I'm also feeling v anxious it's not that again.

I hope there's nothing for you to worry about OP and others in the same boat.

Just want to reiterate my point above. Don't hesitate to get things checked out by a doctor if you have concerns. I prefer to go straight to the contraceptive / sexual health clinic that fitted it, than to the GP, as they have the expertise and it's usually much quicker to get an appointment.

It's usually nothing but sometimes I think we have been trained too well not to make a fuss or annoy the NHS.

I got the Mirena last summer and am on HRT gel. I get a “period” every month still but it is really, really light - only needs a pant liner. Internal scan showed all fine (but also fibroids) and my smear test in August was clear. I read that the Mirena only totally stops periods for about 25% of women.

GC12345 · 07/11/2023 12:30

I’m now getting brown discharge a month after my last post so guess cyclical but still worried as didn’t have anything for first year. I guess being perimenopausal makes things very weird! Anyone else get this?
