Hoping for BV but no fishy smell?

Have a horrible smell coming from down there, it's not fishy, it's more like foosty metallic rubbish bin.

Discharge is a beigey colour.

Had swabs and hopefully get the results in the meantime but the lack of fishy smell is making me worried its not BV and my lovely faithful kind DH has not been so lovely and faithful and kind and has given me something.

Anybody else had BV with a bad smell but not fishy??

I've had the rubbish bin smell with BV before! I know exactly what you mean by that!

Thanks @GiveYourHeadAWobble !

Test results back, confirmed BV so in case anyone comes across this threat, it's not always a fishy smell!!

Yes, so true. I've had an onion smell with it as well.

What treatment did you get and did it stay away?

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 02/04/2024 14:18

Best thing for BV.. I've suffered years and years.. only thing that works for me.. comes with 7 tubes.. you insert into your vagina each night.
No it isn't always fishy.
It sometimes smells oniony/ metallic like blood/ sometimes no smell.
It's just an imbalance of good and harmful bacteria.
Women who have had hysterectomy and cervix removed suffer a lot.. as do menopausal women. Women with Endometriosis.. or prolapse bladder.. also stress can cause it.

Yes that’s an antibiotic isn’t it? Can’t get in to see Gp for two weeks ! Does it keep it away?

Another treatment option is boric acid. That’s what got rid of mine (I had chronic bv for years and years). Fill empty capsules with 2/3 boric acid powder and 1/3 pure coconut oil.

Where do you get that?

I’ve used balance active probiotic gels for 7 days and they work immediately but 4 days later it comes back so my ph is obviously off.My discharge doesn’t smell bad, it’s beige and copious and just smells different . I’m going to get topical hrt as I’ve read it’s a lack of lactic acid in post menopausal women that can cause recurring BV. I’ve never had it before.

DrunkTinkerbell40s · 02/04/2024 18:04

Oh god I've had it on and off over the years and just think it smells like rotting death!!! Not fishy as such, just rotten. For years I just thought it was me as didn't even know BV was a thing. It always seems to resolve itself. Last time I had it I got a BV swab test on Amazon, messaged doc with the result and he prescribed a cream, but by the time I picked it up it had cleared itself.

Are you post menopause @DrunkTinkerbell40s ? PH can fluctuate when menstrual but after meno ph can become too alkaline allowing BV.

Nope, not post menopause. I think I've suffered with BV on and off over the years though. There's definitely been times I'm smellier than others!

greengreyblue · 02/04/2024 18:22

Try Balance active gels after your period as blood can reduce acidity apparently and trigger BV. I feel I’m an expert at the moment with all the reading I’ve done to get to the bottom of this!😂
