Kidney infection have I been stupid?

So I was diagnosed with a kidney infection last week and given 7 days of strong ABs. After sleeping arojnd the clock for two days I felt better and saw my boyfriend last night. Had wine and a lot of dehydrating sex (ahem). And today feel ok generally but my god my back is sore - under ribs like muscle ache.

Have taken rehydration sachet and ibuprofen- have I damaged myself? My temp is fine. It's just the ache:

Feel very stupid. Have always struggles with UTIs. It's just beyond a joke how much this affects me.

I'd keep an eye on that. I got a really bad infection that started going septic and the first sign of it was terrible backache.

If your temperature is normal, that's a good sign. But I'd be taking it every few hours to make sure.

You say you have always struggled with UTI’s have you had a full STD screen? Sometimes recurrent UTI’s can be masking a STD.

But is that poss if I've already had three days of very strong antibiotics?

What the flip is dehydrating sex?!

Angelik · 09/09/2023 16:16

You had wine whilst taking ABs - why? Especially if you're prone to infections. Please start looking after yourself

Don't worry, keep taking your antibiotics and drinking plenty of water. Lingering kidney ache is typically normal for a few days following infection, particularly if you've not drank enough and been active. I doubt you've caused any extra damage by having sex. See how you get on - just watch for developing fever and flu like symptoms and whatnot, be straight on to the doc if symptoms worsen.
Ibuprofen is also not recommended with a kidney infection, paracetamol is fine though.

(Not a medic, just lots of experience with sodding kidney infections)

Ibuprofen is not good for kidneys. Get another test done and probably need more treatment.

Kedece2410 · 29/09/2023 18:52

@rosiejug I know the threads a few weeks old & hopefully you're better. You might want to check with your doctor about ibuprofen.

I have a kidney problem & regularly get infections. I'm not allowed to take ibuprofen at all.
