Anyone had a laparoscopy?

I’m waiting for a laparoscopy and wondered if anyone on here had had experience of the procedure? How is the recovery? And do the scars heal/fade well?

I had more scars than expected after mine but they are very tiny and faded.

Justme10 · 22/08/2023 07:59

I had one last year and the recovery was fine to be honest, a few days of painkillers and a couple of weeks until completely back to normal.

The scars are very small, I struggle to find them now apart from the one the on my c section scar as they went in through there as well.

Margarita45 · 22/08/2023 08:01

Awww that’s good to know. I’ve been Googling it but the scars all look awful in there!!!

That is one of mine, I've put the back dots so you can see the size better.
I find it's better not to google scars, I really freaked myself out when I looked up c section scars before looking at my own! Grin

Thank you @Justme10! Looks barely noticeable tbh. Is it 3 scars in total?

I've had 3 laparoscopies. The most recent 2 years ago and the scars are hardly visible - they make 3 cuts for mine it was one in the belly button area one to the side and one around my C-section area.
Recovery was pretty quick, painkillers for a few days then a couple of weeks until I felt totally normal again

Justme10 · 22/08/2023 08:21

Yeah I have two that look like that and they went in through my section scar which just blends in.

I guess it depends what they do, depends on how many scars you have. When I had mine they were removing a cyst from my ovary and investigating to see if I had endometriosis.

BlueBlubbaWhale · 22/08/2023 08:27

Recovery was fine. Scars I have one in my belly button and one just below my bikini line

Wanttoshavemyhairoff · 22/08/2023 08:34

I had one 18 months ago for endometriosis investigation.
Honestly recovery was so fast , was fine after two days , can’t even see the scars now at all.

good luck !

I had one seven years ago. Two scars, a few days of feeling uncomfy… mostly from the gas they use so some shoulder pain weirdly 😬 mint tea is v helpful with this!
Scars barely noticeable now

Abstardust · 22/08/2023 08:49

I had one in March to remove a cyst, which resulted in half an ovary being removed. I have 4 cuts which have faded a lot. Recovery was fine couple of days needing pain killers then few more weeks feeling uncomfortable but not in pain. I took 3 weeks off work in total.

Trez1510 · 22/08/2023 09:01

Two tiny scars- barely visible - belly button and in bikini line. Ovarian cyst removal. Didn't require painkillers - only discomfort was shoulder pain. Was fine the following day so was able to enjoy the few days leave I'd booked much more than expected. This was 30+ years ago and I imagine the technique/ proceedure has only improved since then!

Lapforendo · 22/08/2023 09:30

Following as I am waiting too

Growlybear83 · 22/08/2023 09:35

I had a laparoscopy many years ago, and I'm sure the procedure is much more refined now. I had a tiny scar, about 1cm long, which has long since disappeared - it was probably visible for about three years but was very pale. I was sent home a couple of hours after the procedure and was absolutely fine. I think I took the next day off work but only because I'd had a general anaesthetic and thought I should stay home, but I'm sure it wasn't necessary.

Clickncollect · 22/08/2023 09:36

Agree with PP about the gas they use so was a little uncomfortable for a couple of days while that worked it’s way out of my system. Scars barely noticeable 8ish years down the line. Good luck OP

saveyourtears · 22/08/2023 09:48

I've had one for investigation and honestly I didn't have any pain after (maybe I was lucky )
Took painkillers after I got home but none after that
I was up and about two days later
The only thing for me was feeling tired after the anaesthetic.
A tiny tiny little scar which I can't even see
It will be fine honestly
Good luck

I had a laprascopic cervical cerclage so have 4 scars, 3 on my tummy and one in my tummy button. The latter I can’t even see but here’s one of the others tiny - thing. I had very little pain that I can recall.

Thanks everyone! Such a relief to hear everyone had minimal pain and scars fade!! Now just to get through the wait!

I've had 2 OP. These are my scars, I had about 4 or 5 for each operation but they were big operations on my bowel.

The red one is from mid June 2023, the faded one is from November 2021. The faded one is 1cm long.

I didn't need any pain relief afterwards for the incisions. The internal stuff they did was a bit sore for a few days.
