Bleeding for for 8day not a period!

Hey everyone.

My periods have been very regular ever since I had a copper coil fitted 7years ago. After I had my son. Periods come Every 4-5weeks lasts 4-5days.

on 1st August I got my usual period. Finished on the 5th. I had started to bleed again lightly on the 12th and have been bleeding since. Usually light pink (not like a period blood) sometimes a bit darker like red or brown. Also one tiny clot on day 3 of bleeding like the size of an apple seed. Sometimes I go half a day without blood and I think it's over then it starts again!

I'm sexually active using the coil as contraception. No STIS and I'm doubting its pregnancy related due to the coil and that I had my real period two weeks ago.

I have a doctor's appointment Monday but I'm so worried as this is completely abnormal for me.

I had a smear last year all good.

And ideas what this could be down to? Worth mentioning I feel like shit, physically exhausted, back pain and just generally feeling like poo 😫

Adding some photos if that helps!

Hi Op,
no advice but wondering if you found out what’s going on as this is also happening to me?

After bleeding for 7days I went to the GP. She said I needed a smear test doing as my last one showed HPV so is due to checked. Didn't mention anything other possible causes of bleeding. No mention of blood tests and tbh didn't even ask me many questions. Only when was your last smear 🤷🏼‍♀️ and went straight onto that. She Gave me tablets to stop the bleeding so that I can have the smear done. They didn't work so after another week of bleeding I went to urgent care as recommended from my GP due to not being able to get an appointment. They tested my urine for infection or pregnancy (both negative) sent me away saying they can't do anything else and I need to see my GP if I can't I need to go to bigger hospital where they can do further tests if needed. I didn't go because I was feeling awful and messed about and honestly started to feel stupid. After 3 weeks of bleeding it just stopped. Funny enough stopped at the time I was due my next period. So I finally had my smear test appointment yesterday. Showed up for the nurse to say my GP was wrong for booking me in for a smear as I'm not due one for 10days. (12 months since my last) apparently they cannot do one due to clinical reasons anymore. I have to wait another ten days 🤦🏼‍♀️ So again I wasted my time! I have no clue what's going on with my body ATM, what caused it or when my next period will be due. I feel really let down tbh. I hope you get better care then I have x

Hi OP, did you ever get any answers to your situation please? I am going through something similar - have a smear and scans booked for tomorrow but would like to know what the outcomes have been for others in a similar situation.

Anonjd3 · 07/05/2024 22:41

Hey unfortunately not. It took me so long to get the other smear test. I had it only a month or two ago! Results came back same as beforee with HPV but no changes so I just need another next year. As for the bleeding i haven't bled like that since although had some spotting every now and then but I think things have been normal for the last 6Months or so. Not much help sorry but hopefully rest assured it won't be anything serious and just random episode like mine was x

Glad to hear it was a one off OP, and that the smear test results came back with no changes. I hope also been alright?
I've been having bleeding 4 days now, started 11 days after previous period, doesn't feel like a period, and is quite heavy. I have a gp appt but it's more than 2 weeks away yet so I'm going out of my mind wondering whats going on

Yuppmetoo · 09/05/2024 07:30

Hi MsMoneyPennie, I am in the same boat you are! I am on day 4 of bleeding which started a week after my last period ended. I had a pelvic ultrasound which was all clear but going to GP on Monday. Bleeding has been the same throughout doesnt look like its getting lighter so quite worried. Hoping it stops itself.

MsMoneyPennie · 09/05/2024 10:52

@Yuppmetoo how strange that we're both about the same. I'm day 5 of bleeding now, not getting any lighter. I wondered if it was an extra period, maybe the start of perimenopause but with it still so heavy, it doesn't feel like a period now. How did you get to be seen quite quickly?

Yuppmetoo · 09/05/2024 11:24

Yea it doesnt feel like a period to me either as by day 4 mine start to slow down but this is constant bleeding and bright red like a wound is bleeding or something. Terrified I have C its sending my into a spiral I have a 2 year old at home :( i have health insurance at work so went and got a private pelvic ultrasound but it all looked normal. I know GP wont be able to do a smear until the bleeding stops so honestly dont know what to do, its so scary. Hope you’re doing better than I am!

MsMoneyPennie · 09/05/2024 11:50

I have a 2 year old too and have the same fear, I'm terrified and am frustrated to have to wait another 2 weeks to be seen, I'm a wreck. Thats good with the health insurance covering the ultrasound, that must have set your mind at rest a fair bit. Fingers crossed it will stop soon for both of us and it'll be alright

Yuppmetoo · 09/05/2024 12:48

I know its awful having to wait you cant stop your mind from thinking the worst. I will update you after my GP appointment on Monday to see what he says. I think after my pelvic ultrasound I am in even more of a state because if its nothing there then it must be my cervix?! My anxiety is through the roof! Fingers crossed for the both of us, hopefully its just a weird one-off thing.

MsMoneyPennie · 09/05/2024 13:33

Let's just hope it is a weird one off thing for both of us, definitely. Good luck for Monday. X
