First smear

Hi all. I had my first smear test a week ago and awaiting results, I know they won’t be here for another couple of weeks but I’m slightly overthinking because at my smear the nurse didn’t comment on whether my cervix looked healthy or not. To my understanding most of the time they let you know if everything looks good, after speaking to a few friends they said they were told their cervix looks healthy right there and then at the test. Am I just being paranoid? Surely she would have said something to be if anything looked off? Sorry, I have anxiety and overthink a lot of things esp when it comes to health.

I'm not sure they can even see it can they? Noone ever said anything to me

I had one last week and have had plenty in the past. No comments on healthiness for mine ever and to be honest I'm not sure they can really tell by looking. Try not to worry and I know that's easier said than done.

Can't say I've ever had any comments regarding the appearance of my cervix

They haven’t got a microscope so how can they tell? I think she was right not to say anything. If you got told everything looks healthy only to them be told there are abnormalities it would have been false reassurance.

The smear sample taken has to be tested in a lab, so a couple if weeks for results is normal. They can’t tell whether there are concerning cells/HPV by eye.

Thinking back, I’m sure I’ve had a nurse comment before that “everything looks good”, but I’ve also had near-silent smears before too. All mine have been normal, I think the chat depends on the nurse’s personality tbh.
