Spotting after smear?

Hi all,

So I had my smear test done this afternoon. It's my second one and 3 months after having my baby.

The nurse who done it said I shouldn't bleed as she didn't see any bleeding after she had done it, but I have just been to the toilet (9 hours after) and when I wiped I noticed some pink discharge. Is this normal? I know spotting can happen but even this many hours after the test happened?

Perfectly normal

Thanks @solice84 ☺️

Is it normal event if it didn't happen straight away and was hours later?

It is for me and I'm sure it will be for others

@Maybaby1994 Hi there, can you let me know if your smear ended up ok. I had a smear yesterday and could’ve written this myself, no bleeding at the time but pink bleeding started 7hrs after. I had it done 7 weeks post partum as well. I’m freaking out. Thanks!

@Emmylou2202 7 weeks pp? Are you in the Uk? Was it a routine smear? They really don’t recommend them being done until at least 12 weeks more due to it affecting the sample and that the cervix hasn’t fully returned. The bleeding is likely to be due the small abrasion to the delicate lining of the cervix and should settle after a few hours.

@Emmylou2202 yes mine turned out fine in the end! I also had spotting on and off for weeks before as well so I was really concerned at the time, but like @Wishiwasatailor in the UK we don't have ours done until at least 12 weeks pp, so if yours was done after only 7 weeks, that could definitely explain the spotting!

Thanks @Wishiwasatailor and @Maybaby1994 for replying. I had it done privately as I actually went to have a polyp removed that I had throughout my pregnancy but then he went to remove it and it had gone so must’ve fallen off itself and so he did a smear as there was no polyp to send off for testing.
I stopped my post partum bleeding last week around 5 weeks and have had normal discharge since but then since yesterday and the smear it’s been pink especially when I go for a wee. Just worried as I’ve never bled from a smear before and it didn’t start straight away.
he was routing around in there for a little bit before the actually sample was taken to check he couldn’t see the polyp though!
