Hi I'm 5 months overdue my smear test . I had the letter in April but I just kept forgetting about it, as a Teacher I don't really attend to my own appointments until the summer holidays. I know this is wrong and I've vowed to put myself first from now on! Anyway I've just rang the gp surgery up and my appointment is for August 15th and I'm now fretting that Ive left it way too late . I did have an abnormal smear about 9 Years ago and had the cells treated . I've kept up to date with all of my smear tests . Im 42 and now kicking myself for being so stupid. Does anyone know of any facts or figures for reassurance?

I'm probably a year overdue due to covid. Have only recently had a letter to book an appointment and mine is tomorrow

It's 5 months not 5 years
Don't worry about it.

just had mine done - 2 years late!

Nurse was pleased I turned up as since Covid they have had more no-shows

I was later than that when I was due one in pregnancy - I had to wait until I was a certain time pp too, so it was about 10 months late.

I really wouldn’t be worried about 5 months. That’s not likely to make any material difference even if they find abnormal cells. Changes rarely progress to cancer that fast, it’s usually years.
