What blood tests shall I request? 42 and feeling low

Hello!
A quick summary of me...

Recently turned 42
Have a 15 month old and recently miscarried at 12 weeks.
Have spent the last 3 years TTC and been pregnant off and on multiple times over that period which has done an absolute number on my hormones.
Mentally feel ok but my energy levels are very low.
I am a SAHM and eat well / am active.
Happy marriage

Pretty sure I'm giving up on TTC and want to focus on myself for a while rather than living in 'what if' land.

I'm going to make a doctor appointment and request some blood tests.
(For mood and energy levels, not TTC related)

I know thyroid issues can cause lethargy so I was going to request blood work for that, can anyone make other suggestions as to what else I should get tested for?

I'm also going to buy a heap of vitamins and supplements...if there are others to add to the list please let me know

Vit D
Vit B
Magnesium
Ashwanga
St John’s Wort
Iron
Vit C
Zinc
Calcium

St Johns Wort can be dangerous so I'd hold off on that.

The doctor will decide what blood tests you need-that's what the medical degree is for.

I'm in almost exactly the same place as you. It's tough

Yeah I don't know if you have private health care or not, but generally it doesn't go great if you go in and decide what blood tests you need. Perhaps you could suggest it's a thyroid issue or vitamin deficiency?

I'd also check the supliments out properly. Just because they are natural doesn't mean they are all safe. Especially when taken with medication if you take any.

I went to GP last week with heavy periods and feeling exhausted all the time.
She's requested blood tests to check my iron levels and thyroid along with a liver and diabetes check (due to previous issues I had)

I only take vitamins with extra iron - waiting to see what the doctor suggests before I try any supplements etc.

Good luck 😊 hopefully you get a helpful GP like I had!

Thyroid function
Ferritin
vitamin D
B12
Folate

All can affect mood and energy but FBC & HBA1C too

Personally, I would hold off on all of those supplements except for Magnesium, and be sure that it's magnesium glycinate. In addition to that, pay close attention to your diet and get your nutrients from food.

Let the GP decide if blood tests are needed.

Honestly I'd say try cutting gluten out for a couple of months and see if it makes a difference.

It's exhausting isn't it...and yet I should be full of beans and living my best life!
I really do have everything I've ever wished for.

Ok noted about St John's Wort. I haven't actually researched this one but have heard it mentioned plenty of times when talking about low mood.

I'll look into this a little more, thanks for the suggestion.
I 'think' I'm pretty light on the gluten intake anyway due to eating minimal carbs but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong!

Thanks for the comments all. Very good points to wait and see what the doctor suggests.

I just rang to make an appointment and it's a 3 week wait so I'll have to be patient!

I think I'll start with magnesium and Vit B and then wait for the doctors comments before purchasing any other supplements (they are so expensive!)
