Constant bleeding on mini pill

phoebsg · 20/07/2023 19:49

Hi, just looking for some advice on other's experiences with the mini pill. I have been taking multiple variations of it for about 3 years and am still experiencing prolonged periods/spotting. Has anyone else had this issue and since come off the mini pill?

I think i'd like to stop taking it and see if that stops the bleeding. Please reply if you have had a similar experience and with what helped solve this for you.

Thanks!😀

You have persevered - 3 months of that and I came off it!

dementedpixie · 20/07/2023 20:57

Which mini pills have you tried?
There are 3 different types with different hormones that may have different side effects

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 20/07/2023 20:59

Yeah I had this, tbh most hormonal contraceptives caused spotting or prolonged bleeding for me and I've tried them all!

IHateLegDay · 20/07/2023 21:03

I bled for months on the mini pill and same again on the injection.
The dr said if I carried on with hormonal contraception, I'd need a blood transfusion.

I now have the mirena coil. I have the tiniest periods (it's just spotting really) but my moods are all over the place

Yes, similar experience here. Went on the mini-pill (Cerelle) September 21, 2 months after giving birth. No periods until October 22 as breastfeeding. Since then, I seem to bleed twice a month, period plus significant spotting amounting to bleeding a couple of weeks later. Had tests done at GP, nothing picked up so it was suggested I try a different brand of the mini-pill. As of 3 month ago am taking Desogestrel but am still bleeding twice a month 😟. But as I have fairly severe endometriosis it provides relief from symptoms as well as contraception so I’m wary of coming off it.

Yes it was impossible for me, ended up taking the oestrogen containing combined pill again at 42 for 5 years. I am 47 now and have stopped it as I am afraid of blood clots. Just taking my very slim chances now.

Funny you say that as I have been put on a waiting list to get the Mirena. I have heard a lot of good yet a lot of bad things about it, so it's a bit nervewracking to think ill be having the procedure within the next couple months...

It truly is ridiculous! There was a point my bleeding was so uncontrolled I actually started having fainting episodes and ended up in hospital. After blood tests were taken, they also found I had become anaemic.

Over the 3 years I have tried cerelle (total nightmare) and noriday both long-term. Different types of progesterone hormone and have both had horrible effects on my cycle! Is just so frustrating when I hear of family and friends who have great experiences with little to no side effects - at this point I am at my wits end.

I am querying a diagnosis of endo. I struggle from severe cramping and lower back pain. Cerelle (degesterol) was the only pill that really did make a positive difference in terms of painful periods, however it just did not work with my cycle and I bled continously for about 9 months after starting it, 2 months of nothing and then again bleeding until I eventually switched pills over a year later.. I really hope the degesterol works better for you :)

I've been on cerelle for years and had some bleeding recently. About 5 weeks of bleeding a little in the morning most days. I was examined by the doc and she referred me for an internal exam and thankfully nothing was wrong.

It's worth checking out if you are worried.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/07/2023 22:59

My dd (older teen) has started wearing the contraceptive patch which seems to be working okay for her (no break through bleeding, only side effect is sore boobs!)

ivybx · 21/07/2023 23:25

I am on Cerelle and I've been on it for 9 months now, at the start I was bleeding every 2 weeks or so but my doctor said that is common until your body gets used to it. I now don't get a period at all
