Hi cut long story short, I noticed I could feel a lump on my gum (couldn’t see no spot or puss at all at this point) could just feel one on 27 June. I have zero pain, I think it’s above a tooth that had a root canal as feel nothing other then the lump. It’s 19 July and I have an appt 25 july. I won’t get sepsis will I due to the time I left without being fitted in at dentist?

I was given doxycycline for a gnat bite that got infected 30 June. No facial swelling.

Yes I believe it’s shrunk also as now a little spot has appeared with white in the middle only

@CrystalAmethyst93 it sounds like a sinus. It's very unlikely to give you any pain or trouble before you are seen. You don't need antibiotics and Doxycyline wouldn't be the best antibiotics for it anyway.
The spot is the infection which is chronic draining out. Mouthwash or warm salty water will encourage any infection out and keep the area clean.
The tooth needs assessment it may be the root canal treatment has failed or the tooth has cracked, you won't know without it being checked and it needs seeing but don't worry too much. HTH.

Not a medical professional but I can’t imagine going from a painless lump that’s been there for weeks without progression, to sepsis in the space of less than a week.

Look at the symptoms and watch out for them. I imagine it would be more of a concern if it was growing, leaking pus, you had a bad fever, headache etc.

Its possibly not an infection - I have something similar to what you mention above a tooth that’s had a root canal and the dentist took lots of X-rays, it’s just a mass of gum and bone apparently Confused.

Hopefully it’s just minor and the dentist can either sort it or put your mind at ease.

I had a dental abscess that made my face swell up like a football and caused me so much pain I honestly considered throwing myself out the window - it was during COVID so couldn't get an appointment for three months, just had to suffer. It's caused significant long-term damage to mt jaw and bone loss, but I didn't get sepsis! I think they have to be really, really bad to degrade to that level. Or maybe I was just lucky.

I think you'll be fine though, with how it sounds. It might not even be an abscess as a pp said. Swish with lukewarm salt water regularly to keep the area clean and keep an eye on it. If it stays as is you'll be ok until your appointment, just make yourself aware of the early symptoms of sepsis and don't delay on getting help if you have any of them.

Look on boots/Amazon for Colgate Peroxyl mouthwash, as well as warm salt water as others have advised.

Similar to Veridical I’ve also had some really nasty ones that I’ve had to leave longer than I would have liked. I’ve lived to tell the tale.

Dental issues are always the worst though, both in pain and anxiety. They’re just impossible to ignore! Try not to touch the lump too much as it will just make your mind go into over drive with worry!
