Atypical genital herpes?

Hi all.

Ive had one sexual partner of 10 years and my now partner of a year and a half.
I think I may have a few gyne things going on re lack of sensational sexually but I've noticed, probably since my current partner, irritation. It's on and off but more on than off.

We have to use lube due to him having a tight foreskin. I've notice burning, discharge and just general uncomfortableness. I've been to the Dr re thrush. It's been this on occasions. I've pointed out the redness irritation and they've not been concerned. All sti checks are negative.

Genital herpes is just always at the back of my mind for some reason. The Dr said I'd know straight away but I read about atypical herpes. I can feel burning and itching for a few days then it goes away.

It's putting a bit of a strain on things because everytime this happens I wonder if this is what it is.

Has anyone experienced genital herpes but not had the typical symptoms? Thanks

You could go to the STI clinic if worried .. they are more knowledgeable and also can test.

Depending on your age (40+?) could also be vaginal atrophy.

Or google lichen planus and lichen sclerosis see if that matches

Or did you already get your STI check in person at the clinic? The online kits only test a few things.

Another possibility is an allergy to the lube

Have you tried a different lube to rule that out?

Beth812 · 11/07/2023 20:48

Yes tried a different lube and still the same. I had all STI screens done at the go apart from herpes as when they looked they didn't think it was that. The GP said I'd know if I had it as it would be obvious although I've read conflicting info online.

I'd go to the sexual health clinic.

How old are you?

If in your 40s it's quite possible it's peri menopause.

If he has a tight foreskin possibly it just isn't that clean :( and you are reacting to that. Try condoms for a while and see if it helps. It's even possible to be allergic to semen, and just to particular partner's.

I'm 36, it's so bizarre
I can't pin point it. I'm hoping it flares to regularly to be herpes.

Ive read that about the tight foreskin and cleanliness but I've never noticed anything other than thinking he was very clean! The semen allergy is a possibility.

I think I'd need to push for a blood test for the herpes. Everything else sti wise was negative x
