Transvaginal ultrasound

I’ve just been to the doctors for painful sex and she’s referred me for a transvaginal scan and I’ll receive the appointment in the post.
does anyone know how long it typically takes to receive the letter? And how long the wait is to have the actual scan?
thank you!

It depends entirely on your area and the waiting lists tbh.
I waited several months for mine for pain and bleeding, whereas DH got a scan for testicular pain within 9 days!

You may have to wait a long time for a scan because of waiting lists. Such for gynaecology are miles long in many areas.

Deep pain during sex can be caused by endometriosis. Do you also get cyclical period pain or severe pain during a period?.

if it is endometriosis an internal ultrasound scan won’t readily detect it because these deposits are so very small.

@AttilaTheMeerkat i don’t get awful period pain no, I just get really bad bloating and cramps before hand but then my periods okay but my periods are irregular I came of the pill in December and they’re 40 day+ cycles.

The transvaginal ultrasound scan will be useful to see if your ovaries are polycystic. This is a common cause of irregular cycles.

A normal sized ovary is about the size of a walnut, polycystic ovaries can appear larger than this and have a "ring of pearls" appearance to them. The cystic follicles associated with PCO do disappear but are replaced by further cystic follicles. Some of these cystic follicles release hormones, others are dormant and one may contain an gg. If you are trying to conceive medical help from a subfertility unit may be needed in order to do so.

I had one recently but mine was urgent due to raised ca125 ...

Have you ever been checked for ovarian cancer ? Do you ever get bloating? You could ask 4 a blood test for ca125 ..
If that comes back abnormal / raised - your scan will be sped up
