Painful sex after C-Section and irregular periods

Lauren8642 · 05/07/2023 22:01

I had a c-section with my daughter 2 years ago and since then sex has been really painful, we’ve tried lube that’s not the problem because it’s definitely not dry down there.

Fast forward to December last year I’ve come of my pill to give my body a break and since then my periods have been quite irregular around as long as 48 day cycles.
Then today I’m on cycle day 41 and we’ve just done the deed and it was so painful I can only describe it like someone forcing something sharp hard into me as far as it will go.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the painful sex.

Has anyone else had similar experiences to this?
Im going to wait until next week to see if my period arrived and if not I’ll go to the doctors about it and the pain.

just to note I’m 25.

I would speak to the GP about this matter initially and from there see a gynaecologist. Deep pain during sex can be an indicator of endometriosis being present. Your c section scar needs to be looked at as well because adhesions can cause pain.

Irregular periods are a separate issue and are often caused by hormonal imbalances, in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. Another possible cause is problems with the thyroid gland. An internal ultrasound scan can be performed to see what your ovaries look like. If blood tests are done you need a day 2 test to compare your LH level against that of FSH.

You will need to be persistent in order to get answers.

@AttilaTheMeerkat ive just spoke to the doctor they’ve asked my to come in for some swaps for Chlamydia. I’m fuming I’ve been with the same partner for 8 year I told her the pain only came on since I had my c section and she’s just ignored that! I don’t know if it’s because I’m young she just assumes I’m going to get STDS. We’ll see what happens when I go this afternoon.

Persist with insisting to see someone! I got told I must have an STD when I knew we’d
both been faithful. The coil had moved and I got pregnant.

That’s terrible for your GP to ignore the c section. My first thought was adhesions. You need gynae referral

Lauren8642 · 06/07/2023 11:23

@ChickpeaPie i was really upset when I got of the phone I’ve put off ringing because I don’t like talking about personal things. Then when she told me that. So I’m gunna have to have the swap this afternoon then wait about a week to get results for them to say it’s not that:
she said she’ll do an vaginal exam aswell after I told her again the pain only came on after my c -section.
what is adhesions? And is it fixable?

So any kind of pain like that they do do swabs, however sounds like she's handled it very insensitivley so not a great start. Hopefully the internal exam sheds some light for you and gives you either answers or a direction for them to look in

Lauren8642 · 06/07/2023 11:59

@Princesspeachee would they be able to see enough tho what could be causing it through an exam? Because when I had my smear I mentioned it it was a while ago now and she said it all looks fine down there

If they can't see anything they may send you for a scan etc x

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/07/2023 12:51

Swabs?. . You need a gynae referral.

Adhesions are sticky strands that can tethers organs together and cause pain. Surgery is usually performed to remove them .

Just an update went to the doctors this afternoon she did the swaps and examination. She said that they have to do the swaps anyways because if I was referred to gyno they would request it.
She didn’t say much about the examination but it was hurting when she was pressing around my tummy and scar whist doing it more so on my left side which she said something was thicker that side (can’t remember what) she’s referring me for a transvagina scan which I’ll be getting a letter for with a date. (Anyone have any ideas how long it will take to get this appointment letter??) and I’ve also got some bloods booked in for next Thursday to check why my periods are irregular.
