I came off my pill in December and my periods are still not normal, I’ve read it can take 6 months to come back but it’s been 6 months now and still not getting any kind of pattern back…
First period (withdrawal) - cycle 30
Second period (first proper period) - cycle 37
Third period - cycle 46
Fourth period - cycle 48
Fifth period - cycle 34
Sixth period - currently waiting on cycle 37

The pill actually leaves your system very quickly after taking the last tablet so what you've read was not correct. Period cycles can revert back to a pre pill cycle so if they were irregular previously similar happens now. The pill has not cause this to happen (if anything it masks symptoms of any underlying hormonal problem) and you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days OR with less than 4 days of variation from month to month. Conditions that affect hormonal balance like polycystic ovaries can make periods become irregular. This can be detected through blood tests; a day 2 test can be done to compare LH and FSH levels. PCO is very common and can be treated. Another possible cause is problems with the thyroid gland; again blood tests can be done to look for this. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.
