Fibroids, Ablation Experience??

5 months ago so had a hysterscopic endometrial ablation and fibroid removal (myosure) done for severely heavy periods. The fibroid was almost 5 cm. The surgery went well and periods were significantly lighter… my about 75%. Biopsies of endometrium and fibroid were all clear.
The last two periods I have had one-two heavy days with occasional flooding. Still not anywhere near where it was but considering the procedure really don’t understand where this still comes from.
surgeon said there was still part of fibroid in the wall So bleeding could still be coming from the base of it?
I’ll go in October for an ultrasound to see where things are at.
Anybody have any or both of these procedures that could share outcomes

Just come across your post as I am looking for info and experiences on fibroids. I had an Endometrial Ablation in 2017 due to very heavy bleeding due to fibroids , and was very anemic and didn't tolerate iron orally so had iv iron infusion. I was offered the Mirena coil first but I declined on the end as there's a family history of breast cancer and I a nervous about using hormone meds. I really hope that by the time - and if you red this - you are doing better; I remember reading before the op, the various outcomes people had and I have to say I was extremely lucky as I stopped bleeding from that day on. You probably didn't want to hear that - I really hope things have improved.

My problem now is the fibroids are still very present and along side having continuous low abdominal pains, I am trying to get investigations and answers - so far they just say the biggest fibroid only remains 1.5cm (approx) but when I ask how many I have they just say multiple!! If I have 10 about that size I'm thinking surely this could be cause of pain.

Take care and hope things are better
Kc

Hi-
sorry that you are having issues. 10 fibroids sounds very likely to be the source of pain despite them being small. As my surgeon told me fibroids cause the uterus to try and contract more- so having cramping seems like a symptom of this.

My issues have largely resolved, but it took almost a year. After having the ablation plus fibroid removal I was having heavy periods still- bit as much as before but still not reasonable. I did have another scan and it all looked good- the base of the fu roof was still there and still accounts for some heaviness in one day only.

That said, my ferritin was at a 6 and as it turns out being anemic contributes to heavy periods - a viscous cycles. Between the surgery and raising my iron levels (slowly) I have got back to what a normal period should be like!

Hi- tks for your reply . I'm glad things are a bit better ...still don't sound great (what us females put up with /treat as ok . Sigh..). My ferritin was as low as that for sometime but my already sensitive gut couldn't handle different type of iron supplements and I asked about if I would be able to have an iron infusion....my GP made a referral and it got accepted and sorted my anemia, and soon after I had the ablation. Maybe you could enquire about this too ? I also, when periods heavy, took tranexemic acid tablets which helped slow the bleeding a bit . My pelvic pain feels more knawing)pulling then period cramps so maybe it's not the fibroids. But i get pain into my thighs too .
Best wishes kc
