Ovarian cancer

I've had a sharp pain in my left side for months now. My tummy hurts a bit after eating and after opening my bowels. I've also started feeling nauseous during the day and evening.

I'm post menopausal and on hrt with a mirena coil.

Had a CT scan this week and bloods taken a couple of weeks ago. Next week I've got an u s scan to check my coil.

Can they see any abnormalities with the ovaries or womb, from an ultra sound scan?

I've got an appointment with the GP on 28th June to discuss the results.

I'm worried I've developed ovarian cancer. I do have a small fibroid on the left ovary.

Any words of reassurance?
I've already had breast cancer and cannot face the thought of another.

Thanks

Hi @Runaround50 I didn’t want to read and run. From what you have said it sounds like they’re being really thorough with tests and investigations. There’s a blood test called CA125. I’m sure when your bloods were done recently they would have done this test and if it were high I’m sure you would have been informed by now. You could always ask? US scan very good at showing abnormalities but not conclusive which is why they do other tests to help build a picture. Also It could be adhesions inside causing the sharp pain. Hope you get your answer soon.

Runaround50 · 16/06/2023 17:05

Thanks @Lalaland44
I honestly don't know what's wrong with me. This pain is brutal.

I'm hoping they've scanned the correct part of my body!

Can't speak to the GP until 28th, but something isn't right. Lots of abdominal pain and this sharp pain on the left loin area.

A benign cyst or endometrioma will cause the pain you describe - that's what I had. As lalaland said, the CA125 test can be done, but any cyst can cause this to be elevated, it doesn't necessarily mean it is cancerous. Mine was over 100 with a benign cyst.

A cyst may show up on a trans-vaginal ultrasound - that's how mine was picked up.

As lalaland said, it will be a combination of tests used to diagnose you.

I had bowel adhesions which caused passing-out level pain, but everything was benign.

I do hope you get your results quickly Flowers

Runaround50 · 16/06/2023 18:49

Thankyou.
I've got the us scan next Thursday. I'm hoping I can survive until then. I may have to go to a&e if it doesn't subside a bit.

So they can see ovaries / womb/ mirena coil on a trans vaginal scan?

OP posts:
musixa · 16/06/2023 19:14

They can certainly see ovaries because that's how mine was spotted.

Runaround50 · 16/06/2023 20:03

Thanks.
I really hope this can be dealt with.
This pain is so horrid. Nothing touches it.

Convinced it's OC now.
All the symptoms add up ( other then bleeding).

I was exactly the same when I was under investigation - it's impossible not to imagine the worst outcome, and saying 'try not to worry' is pretty futile because it's involuntary. The only thing you can really do is distract yourself as best you can while you wait to hear - I read obsessively/binge watched TV, that sort of thing, just so I wasn't dwelling on it and imagining bad outcomes.

fuckmyuteruslining · 16/06/2023 20:52

I understand cancer actually rarely presents with pain. Could be gall stones and also your ovarian cyst tweaking a bit? It's very tempting to put all symptoms together and add up to something very difficult but it could readily be a couple of more benign findings.

Runaround50 · 16/06/2023 20:55

@musixa thanks so much.
I've done the worst thing today and googled constantly. It's done zero for my already frazzled brain.

Okay, time to take a step back.

Ct scan done.
Bloods done.
Ultrasound on Thursday.
GP 28.06.

Nothing more I can do.
Time to keep busy, lay off the sweets and watch rubbish TV.

🤞🤞🤞

@fuckmyuteruslining you are right.
Trouble is, I don't trust my body.
A lump in my breast aged 38, turned out to be a monster of a cancer and in my lymph nodes. Off with the breast, chemo etc. I have no faith.

I had a copper coil for years and developed right side pain, bleeding etc. turned out my coil was digging into the right side of my womb and caused an infection.
you said you had a fibroid on your left side..could this not be causing the pain on your left side? Going to the toilet aggravates uterine pain. Coils are suitable for women with fibroids or any kind of cysts as they can cause cysts and aggravate existing ones. Have your coil removed and don’t let them convince you otherwise.

Runaround50 · 16/06/2023 21:23

@Sarahtm35 oh god, I hope the coil isn't causing me bother. I had it fitted last May for bleeding issues whilst on HRT. It has stopped the bleeding, so reluctant to have it removed, otherwise I bleed on HRT.

God none of this is easy..

Do you mean coils aren't suitable for women with cysts or fibroids?

Is it worth going to a&e?
The pain is awful but the CT scan was done on Wednesday. Ultrasound is on Thursday.

I honestly can't imagine living life like this, if all is ' normal'.

OP posts:
fuckmyuteruslining · 17/06/2023 17:14

Yes defo if the pain is worsening.

Runaround50 · 18/06/2023 10:02

It's worse after going to the toilet.
I feel sick with it at times too.
I cannot wait for this ultra sound on Thursday!

OP posts:
spiderboat · 27/06/2023 14:14

How did your ultrasound go @Runaround50?

Runaround50 · 27/06/2023 18:04

@spiderboat well they couldn't do my scan. The GP stupidly ticked a box on the form, for kidney function, which is what I've already had (CT scan).

So, I've got to wait for a new appointment now.

Thanks for asking.

OP posts:
spiderboat · 27/06/2023 21:48

That's not good at all, will you be bumped up the list?

Runaround50 · 27/06/2023 22:02

I'm hoping so.

How are you ?

Retta1809 · 05/01/2024 14:09

@Runaround50 hope you've had your scan and everything is ok. x
