Cystitis - can't sleep

7 replies

Sexisthairdressers · 09/06/2023 01:49

The constant feeling of needing to go to the loo is stopping me from sleeping. I keep getting up but then can't really pee. Really burns when I do manage to. Headache, too.

I've taken two cystitis remedies (powder in water things) today. Any suggestions on what I can do to ease the symptoms so I can sleep? Will call the GP tomorrow as now gone on for two days but need some suggestions in the meantime...

Thanks all :-)

@Sexisthairdressers

could you put a pad in & give yourself permission to pee in it?

drink lots of water, counter intuitive I know, but it'll help dilute you wee so it doesn't hurt so badly, then when you wee, pour some water down to dilute it.

& take some paracetamol.

hope you get it sired soon!!

Peeing in a warm bath helps apparently

🌷hope you feel better soon, UTI are awful

So I had it really bad before, needed antibiotics to finally clear it... but in the meantime put protection on your bed, plastic sheet, spare waterproof mattress protector etc. Then lay an old towel over it, and wrap another old towel between your legs and go to bed without any knickers on. As you go to sleep and you have that burn just give yourself permission to let any wee come out (if you've just been to the loo it will likely just be very small amounts anyway). It sounds gross but this was the only way I got any relief/ sleep. (realise if you share the bed with someone else this is less feasible!). Wash everything in the morning.

Paracetamol wouldn't hurt if you haven't taken any OP, that and lots of water is pretty much all you can do for now. Were the sachets you took d-mannose? Get some if not, miracle stuff, online from Sweet Cures or in store at Holland & Barrett if you can get to one tomorrow. Hope it settles enough for you to get some sleep Flowers

Thanks for all your replies. I somehow made it through the night and managed to get some antibiotics the next day. All sorted now. Phew!

Glad you're feeling better OP, still recommend always having some d-mannose in the cupboard though. One dose at the first sign of a uti and it stops it in its tracks for me, saves ending up in a state in the middle of the night at least Wink

Arrggh, this is me now.
I have had a powered sachet & paracetamol but still sat on the toilet nearly in tears. Going to be a long night 😭 thankfully I'm not in work tomorrow. I will be getting some of that d-mannose to keep in for the future.
