Left side period pain

Just wondered if anyone else been in the same boat!

Every period I have the worst pain, and it's always on the left side. Had an mri a couple of years ago and came back as clear but consultant thought probably small patches of endometriosis that the scan couldn't pick up.

Pain is now getting worse, so obviously I'm now imagining the worst 🙄 am waiting for a gynae referral but just wondered if anyone been in a similar situation!

Any pain that is cyclical in nature and or gets worse up to and including menses should be checked to see if endometriosis is present. I feel the gynae here was correct, the scan did not detect endometriosis as these deposits are so very small. Scans like internal ultrasounds and MRIs do not always detect endometriosis if it is there, the usual method of diagnosis is laparoscopy which is keyhole surgery.

If financed allow I would see a gynaecologist at your local private hospital for a consultation because waiting lists for gynaecology on the NHS are miles long.

Thanks that's reassuring as I'm worrying that there might be something else going on like a cyst/fibroid.

I'm able to go private so should have an appointment in a couple of weeks 🤞

@myleftovary hey, do you have an update on this? I’m having the exact same thing and I’m so worried

Hello

I had an mri which was clear, the consultant said sometimes left side pain is more bowel related and constipation during a period. It has improved for looking at my diet and eating more fibre.

Hope you get sorted soon, and can get an ultrasound or mri to see what's going on!

@myleftovary hey! Thanks so much for replying. So glad it wasn’t anything serious for you! That gives me some relief as I do suffer ibs and maybe that’s what it is but it just flares up so bad. Was the pain agonising for you? It is for me

myleftovary · 04/12/2023 08:50

Yes it's awful pain, I still have bad periods but cope with it with painkillers. I'm sure there probably is some endometriosis as well as my pain can be so severe but I decided against a laparoscopy as wasn't confident it would help enough vs going through the operation. It's rubbish to live with but thankfully it's just the first couple of days of my period so I just cope with it!

@myleftovary That sounds exactly like me. I was actually diagnosed with endo years ago and had the surgery and felt amazing since. But fast forward to now the past couple periods I’ve had this side pain is killing me! But I actually never had this pain even when I had endo so god knows!

TheLurpackYears · 04/12/2023 08:58

My first thought was endo tissue on your bowel, or your hormones effecting you bowel if it's on the left

TheLurpackYears · 04/12/2023 08:59

Keeping hydrated will help if your are also constipated, you need the fluid to swell the extra fibre you are eating.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 04/12/2023 09:00

Yeah I've had "mystery" pain like this for months at a time. Goes for a while, comes back. They never found a cause although I suspect endometriosis. They checked with a laparoscopy but the surgeon did say it's not comprehensive, it just means of I have it it's not where they checked.

GeorgeR28 · 04/12/2023 14:21

@TheLurpackYears thankyou for replying! I definitely think it’s something to do with bowels as it’s upper abdomen and around my back a little bit all completely isolated to the left side
