LETZ Treatment for Cervical Cell Changes

Allycat · 07/06/2023 06:32

Hi all
Next week I have to go under a general anesthetic to have some cervical cells removed, which may be changing.
My question is, I may be on my period. Does anyone know if I should still attend? I've tried calling and calling the gynae ward, but no one answers the phone!
Thank you

I was due to have the same procedure and was told that if i was heavily bleeding they would rearrange but if i only had a light flow they would still go ahead, I would see how you are the day before and give them a ring to check if you can get through.

Thank you for your reply. I hope your procedure went well was successful x

See how you are on the day.

Also - are you sure it's GA? My LLETZ was definitely not. Just something to check in case you're preparing for something that turns out to be not the right situation

Allycat · 08/06/2023 07:37

Yes unfortunately, it is under GA. Not sure why, and my biopsy came back without any cell changes, so I'm not sure why they're doing it at all. The nurse I spoke to said that my case had been discussed and they decided I should have it done as a precaution.

@Allycat which country are you in ?
I can't understand why they are treating you when they haven't found anything

Allycat · 16/06/2023 17:13

I'm in England. I know its bizarre. I don't want it done, but they've said they advise I do, and under a general. All seems totally over the top, but ita impossible to talk to anyone but an appointments clerk. It's been put off until next week because of the doctors strike.

I'd really be questioning this
I've just got my letter back to say I have cin1 changes and they are going to leave it a year
I had cin2 removed 13 years ago
I've been reading threads on here about hpv etc and noticed a few posts about the treatment and adverse effects such as loss of ability to orgasm and a recent post by someone who haemorrhaged and had to be rushed to hospital
I absolutely would not be having treatment unless I really had to and in your situation I wouldn't be going through with it unless they could give me a satisfactory reason why

Greenshake · 16/06/2023 17:42

This is very weird and I agree with Solice. Why on Earth would they give you a GA and a procedure if here is no obvious reason why?

solice84 · 16/06/2023 20:35

If the biopsy came back clear then what exactly are they removing . I wouldn't let them near me until they could tell me
I think I read somewhere that cone biopsies are done under ga but lletz aren't

Allycat · 22/06/2023 17:35

I went in to hospital for it today. I questioned the consultant (which I can tell he really didn’t like) and he said that the smear verified the HPV, but the biopsy may have missed the cells with changes. I then was told that a medical board had discussed this and they wouldn’t have decided to go ahead if there was no evidence of cell changes. I refused the general as I felt it was like killing a flea with a sledgehammer (which the consultant really didn’t like some more) and had it done under local. It wasn’t too bad. I really hope it hasn’t affected my sexlife, but only time will tell. Afterwards the consultant said I’d made the right choice regarding the local and I’m back home now.
