Thrush - when to see doctor?

For the past few months, I've been struggling with recurrent thrush. I've never really had it before and now it seems to crop up every 2 months or so - often coinciding with my period. No idea why, I don't use any soaps or scents near my vagina, part of me wonders if it could be my menstrual cup - is that a thing?

It usually clears itself up within a week with some canestan but it's getting very frustrating to deal with. Has anyone else had similar? Is it worth seeing a GP? An appointment in my area is like gold dust so I don't want to jump the gun. Thanks.
