I had my last smear in December 2021 and it came back as positive for HPV, but no abnormal cells. At the time it was a huge faff to even get my smear test done as I had just come off contraception and my periods were irregular so my appointment landed on days where I was bleeding for a couple of months.
Fast forward to December 2022 when I was due another smear. I was 8 months pregnant so obviously couldn't have it. I had my baby in January and then bled continuously for about 8 weeks. I had a break of around 5-7 days and then started my period. I then had the implant fitted.
I have spotted ever since having it fitted around 3 weeks now. It's not heavy bleeding, it's light spotting, just streaks on a panty liner. I have had the implant before and I spotted for around 6 months after having it previously.
So, I need to have my smear test as I'm now overdue by 5 months, but the nurse won't do it while I'm bleeding. I'm really worried as I know this spotting will continue for quite a while and the longer time goes on the more anxious I'm getting that having had HPV last time, I could be developing abnormal cells and they won't be caught in time.
Any advice? Anyone gone through similar? I'm just getting really worried that something could be developing and it won't be caught.
