Vaginal Scans

I'm booked in for a vaginal scan next week and am feeling nervous about it, I've never had one before and the circumstances are a bit daunting which is making my nerves worse. I'm hoping they're similar to a smear test, are they just like them in terms of uncomfortability if you've experienced both? Or worse? The nurse on the phone booking me in for the scan said "it'll be a vaginal scan so just prepare yourself for that", which has put the fear in me a bit, like it'll be some horror story to mentally prepare for.

Any advice or experiences welcome!

I've had an ultrasound. The smear test was done at the same time as an extra (on the basis of 'since we're already prodding you, do you want to get that done at the same time?'). I have no experience of getting a smear test separate from that. It was at a gyno in my home country.

I was hissing and twitching with the pain/discomfort when it went in and every time it was moved, though she used the smallest speculum. I was finding it so uncomfortable that my gynaecologist decided to finish off the ultrasound anally (this was uncomfortable, but it was like 'needing to go to the toilet' discomfort, over the actual pain of the vaginal.)

I don't use tampons or have penetrative sex. If you do, maybe it is easier.

My dildocam experience was absolutely fine like most of you said! She did have a gawp at me though with the big dentist light as she decided to swab me for an STI check since I've never had one before and while I had my bits out anyway, but even that was fine as there was no speculum just the tiny little swab. And I was told there and then everything looked as it should and my GP will be back in touch, so overall a huge relief!

Hooray for a positive dildocam experience! I hope results come soon and are what you're hoping for.

I had one yesterday, not the first.

I have PTSD so have my coil fitted under GA and really don't cope with smears

However the scans are fine, mildly uncomfortable depending on where they're looking but that's it

Nothing to fear and compared to a smear test was pain free.
I had one years ago to find fibroids.

Had two in the past 6weeks by men. I asked a friend afterwards why is it men and not women doing this? I guess women think it's gross. Just try to relax, it'll be quick.
The men didn't talk when I had it done.
