Lately my stomach (specifically lower ab/upper pelvic area) has been SO bloated, I literally look 4 months pregnant to the point my belly button is more shallow than usual. There is a constant feeling of slight heaviness and fullness, like I'm a swollen balloon that needs to be deflated.

I'm really worried this is something serious. I've also recently had some bladder retention issues and bad night sweats. I had a Gynae ultrasound to explore possibility fibroids or cysts, all normal. Routine blood work, all normal.

Would the ultrasound rule out cancer/tumor in abdomen? Do you think this sounds serious or more likely gastrointestinal issue?

Really worried Confused

I am so sorry you are going through this.
An ultrasound scan should rule out anything serious, but clearly you still have symptoms and discomfort so it would be entirely reasonable to go back to your GP and talk this through again.
You haven't said anything about blood tests, bowel habit or any further investigations, so I think if the gynae route hasn't found anything, please go back and ask what else can be done.

Sorry, you did say blood tests, I missed that.
Please do go back though.

Was the ultrasound and blood tests recent- since the bloating etc? I assume they scanned your ovaries too? What did they say the next steps were?

Do you notice that it's worse when you eat anything in particular? I think I am early peri menopause and can not tolerate grains any more with it. They literally bloat me like a balloon, I feel heavy and my head feels foggy, which I'm told is an affect of the inflamation.

Following as also early peri menopause with very similar symptoms. I find dairy makes me worse. Hope you get some answers and feel better soon.

Hi OP, the ultrasound would have shown anything untoward. Your blood tests must of been satisfactory as it seems no further action was required. I would feel massively reassured by that.

It sounds like it points towards a digestive issue. Perhaps start keeping a food diary. Consider IBS. Even a mild food sensitivity can cause bloating. Consider probiotics too. Unfortunately the NHS does not quite offer the comprehensive help we sometimes need when it’s digestion related so it’s good to try and be your own advocate and do some self detective work.

Thank you, I've had terrible health anxiety since becoming a mom, I always fear the worst. Maybe I can seek a gastro referral.
