Mid cycle pain

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has had these issues as I'm a little worried. Since having DS2, 2 years ago, I've been getting increasingly painful mid cycle pains, which I believe coincides with ovulation. However I don't feel the pain/twinges which people describe with ovulation pain, mine is more general, like really bad period pains and they tend to last a few days. This morning was so painful, I had to crouch down and take paracetamol. I'm waiting for an ultrasound referral but more details are: 40 years old, normal vaginal births, normal period (although much heavier since coming off the pill and having kids), no spotting or bleeding in between periods. The other thing that worries me is that my lower back is now painful, especially when walking for a while.
Could this be ovarian cysts or worse? My lower back pain is worrying me now 😔

A GP said to me that his back pain started exactly on his 40th birthday - as a way of saying a lot of people start getting back pain on their early 40s. It's very normal - but you're right to get new pain checked out. Pilates will really help.

Is the back pain cyclical? Mine definitely gets worse as my period approaches.

I also never got mid cycle pain until after having kids. Mine is more classic mittelschmerz but always felt on one side even if the egg has popped on the other side! Basically bodies are weird.

Thanks Legoroses, yes back pain is cyclical but not sure why my ovulation pain feels like really bad period pains, as opposed to the pain you feel on one side...

Hi OP, I read your post last night as I was googling the same things. I could have written your post, word for word - I had to check I didn't!
Dr did some tests to rule out nastier things, she thought endometriosis. She requested scans for me but the hospital refused them... apparently being in terrible pain for days each month wasn't enough reason to scan. That was last month, this month I'm in pain again and I need to go back but it feels like a huge uphill battle. I wondered about cysts as well. I'm fed up of saying to my kids "Mummy feels too poorly to play right now". You have my sympathies, it sucks.

@Broadbeaner sorry to hear you have the same issues, but also very interesting. Do you also get lower back ache?
I won't get to the bottom of this as I was told my scan was none urgent and therefore could be weeks/month or more :(
Did your issues get worse since having kids?

Yes I've been getting lower back ache, never had it before and now it's there. Been to the osteopath and she can't see any reason for it. Dr was convinced it was gynaecological. Definitely got worse after kids. I don't remember having any problems before or after DC1 but after DC2 my normal monthly bleeding, pains and PMS changed completely. I'm convinced my 2nd pregnancy/labour was the catalyst but I suppose it could be age too, I was 36 when DC2 was born and I remember pains and changes from about 38.

It's so frustrating isn't it, to be told your scan is non urgent. At least you will get it, even if you need to wait. Its just a waiting game it seems and it's so easy to give up the fight of getting answers.

I've just ovulated and have been in pain and discomfort for 5 days. 3 were bad and 2 are quite slight, but still enough to notice and be irritated by. It's the same every month. Then I feel OK and I fool myself I don't need to urgently do anything. I feel OK ish today, 1 week after ovulation. And then my PMS will kick in! That's another story 😂

@Broadbeaner , it's amazing how our experiences are the same. I had no issues after DC1, but problems started less than a year after DC2. I am also OK for now, as ovulation has passed, but lower backache is still there. I wonder if there are people out there with similar issues after having children. I've just turned 40

I forgot to mention that I also sometimes feel like a have bladder pain, I pee a lot, always have, but no sign of UTI.

No worried about ovarian cancer! No bloating or loss of appetite. I've made another GP appointment
