Mini pill withdrawal, does it get better?

Am on day 10 off the mini pill and not feeling that great.

I was advised to come off it by my GP as my blood pressure has been edging towards higher than normal recently, also I suspect perimenopause could be involved and so we want to have a good look at my bloods etc when I'm off hormonal contraception.

First few days I didn't notice anything, but this week I just feel gross. Pre menstrual and gross. My chin is covered in spots and I have cramping in my uterus area, but no bleeding (yet). I also have a splitting headache and intermittent nausea, not so bad I'm rendered useless, but bad enough to be a bit crap.

Did anyone feel similarly when they came off and did it settle in the end? I had two nine month bouts of HG with each pregnancy so am good at hanging on in there, if I know the end is in sight eventually!

This isn’t what you’re asking but NICE clinical guidelines state you should be offered HRT if you are having menopausal symptoms - blood tests for menopause are unreliable and so shouldn’t be used except to exclude other conditions in women aged under 45 (not sure how old you are). If you are having issues with blood pressure this is most likely due to menopause if you suspect you are experiencing this and the easiest solution HRT wise would be for you to to continue on the mini pill and add in oestrogel and utrogestan (this is the combo I’m on - I went into early menopause aged 37 due to autoimmune diseases, I’m now 42). Your doctor sounds a bit ill informed. If your blood pressure is an issue for non menopause related reasons you can have medication for this and still have HRT - it’s old fashioned to think women can’t have both.

Hi, I am also day 10 off the mini pill desogestrel, I’ve been feeling sick on and off and light headed. I’m 40. I’ve been on this pill since end of January before that on the combined pill for 7 years. Haven’t had a normal period since having second baby 7.5 years ago. No bleeding since stopping the mini pill, just feel horrible. Have your symptoms got any better? x

I didn’t think high blood pressure was much cause for concern with the POP? Well no more of normal concern any way.

I can’t help with side effects as I’ve been on it for years, think I’ll continue with if too!
