HRT + Hypothyroid drug + citalopram withdrawal HELP confused

Hello there,

Can you help me work out what to do next?

I came off Citalopram in Feb after two years on it. I'm 50. I tapered as advised by GP but it was definitely too fast and so I had withdrawal symptoms that made me feel very low, anxious with suicidal thoughts ,achy limbs, foggy mind and tiredness. I originally took Citalopram to deal with anxiety.

My theory at that point was that the Citalopram had masked my perimenopausal symptoms and that I am feeling not just withdrawal but these symptoms too. I also think I shouldn't have been prescribed in back when I was 48 as I was probably needing to think about HRT.

I spoke to the GP about this who prescribed me HRT straight away via the phone. I'm on Estradol Sequi patches.

4 weeks later the GP says I have hypothyroidism and I'm prescribed Levothyroxine as well.

Now - 9 weeks after first taking the HRT I am feeling very, very anxious, tearful and low.

I feel very confused about what might be the cause of this. I am waiting to complete 12 weeks on the HRT before talking to the GP again (as I know they will say I need to give it this time before working our next steps).

On one hand I wonder if the HRT could be making me worse? On the other I wonder if I need to take more of it!? In addition I've read that low oestrogen can cause hypothyroidism. Should I be asking to see a specialist? Should I somehow find money to see a private specialist? I'm so at sea and not sure where to turn.

Can you advise on what might be going on - any lived experience out there. Or maybe some endocrinologists?!?

X
