CONSTANTLY needing to pee after cystitis/UTI & antibiotics

It’s been three weeks from when I had (or at least, think I had) cystitis. I unfortunately get it often as do most women in my family and the usual symptoms included: burning, stinging, problems passing urine and constantly needing to pass urine with blood in urine.

Usually I take the sachets along with painkillers and natural remedies and the cystitis clears up on its own. This wasn’t the case this time so I called the dr for a 3 day course of anti biotics. These did not work. I also did a dip stick urine sample where no UTI or blood was present.

A few days later, the burning, stinging and blood had completely gone but the needing to pee sensation is like nothing I’d ever had. I would need to pee every 5-10 minutes despite having an empty bladder, and only a weak steam would come out.

I had STI tests which were negative, possible BV which I had treatment for there & then, and blood tests all showed normal. I also did 2 more urine samples which still show no UTI. I had a vaginal examination and the nurse said all seemed normal.

My dr has now prescribed me 7 days of ciprofloxacin which seemed to be really working. I’m on 2 tablets per day, and the urgency to pee had definitely gone down.

However I missed just one tablet by a few hours yesterday and the needing to pee sensation is as horrific as ever. I literally can’t get off the toilet. I’m so devastated because I know when I do finish this course of antibiotics (I only have three remaining) the needing to pee sensation will be back.

It’s lasted three weeks now and is really affecting my mental health and anxiety. For reference, I’m 24 year old female with no significant health problems.

If the antibiotics ARE helping whilst I’m taking them correctly - does that mean I do have a UTI that just isn’t showing up on tests?

What do I do when I finish this course of antibiotics?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks x
