Postpartum rectal bleeding

Sorry for the TMI!

It goes without saying I will be speaking with a GP tomorrow once they are open after the Bank Holiday ☺️ but I just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience as me.

I am almost 3 weeks postpartum. During the delivery I suffered 2x tears (not 100% of the degree of the tears) and had an episiotomy all of which required quite a bit of stitching afterwards - almost an hour of stitching.

In the early hours of this morning I woke up with stomach cramps and had to dash to the loo. Standard sickness and diarrhoea or so I thought.

As the day has gone on, I’ve still had the odd stomach cramp every hour or so with a trip to the loo but the diarrhoea now looks watery and bloody. My bottom is itchy and a bit sore. I’ve got visible external piles but think I may also have an internal pile from the pregnancy/delivery.

I’ve had slight bleeding on toilet paper before when patting clean etc but nothing like this. I’m panicking that it could be something more sinister but with only being 2 and a bit weeks PP everything is still a car crash down there so not sure if I’m overthinking things and making myself worse with the worry. Would piles bleed with diarrhoea?

I’ll be ringing the GP in the morning to see what they say but has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

Absolutely, but still worth a chat with the dr for reassurance or examination. Congratulations on your new baby.

Diarrhea often causes hemorrhoids to bleed due to the presence of digestive acid or bile in the loose stools.
