Anyone switched from Cerelle to Copper coil?

Hey, I’m new here.. has anyone switched from Cerelle mini pill to the copper coil & have any positive information about it?

I’ve been on cerelle for about 16 months now from I had my 3rd child. I had a period every month on it for about a year I’ve always been an anxious person but from I started this pill my mental health totally declined I’m always tired/moody, no sex drive what so ever & not to mention I’ve gained 2 and a half stone from I started I just feel so down about myself and everything else. I’m booked to go get the copper coil on Friday and after hearing all the horror stories about it threw this thread I’m scared to get it now. I understand I will have bad periods with the copper coil which I’m not really worried about as I would take a worse period if it meant that all the symptoms from the pill would disappear.

sorry for the long post but I’m just looking to know did anyone’s mental health improve when switching and did anyone’s appetite go back to normal and sex drive

Hi, not got any experience of this other than I'm in a similar position. Been on the mini pill for a couple of years but suffered a lot with low mood. I came off the pill two months ago and my mood, confidence and sex drive have all increased. Have an appointment booked to have the coil fitted in a couple of weeks, but having a bit of a wobble about it. I know I don't want to go back on the pill though, feel so much better not on it, so think it might be worth a try.

I suffered badly with PND but life has got a lot easier now my daughters up a bit but ever since I’ve started taking the mini pill I get stressed out so easily I’m usually a chill person & my moods are awful, zero sex drive what so ever I don’t even want my partner to even look at me & the weight gain 😭😭 I’m gonna have the coil fitted on Friday and see how it goes I’m just hoping it helps are you going for the copper aswell??

@Ruru313 I came off the mini pill 10 years ago as it was horrendous and had a copper coil fitted . My experience of it is that they are great , no hormones so I felt so much better in myself. Having it fitted is a little uncomfortable but it was worth it and my periods are maybe a little heavier than they were but not by much .

Ruru313 · 03/05/2023 16:13

Did you gain any weight on the mini pill? And if so did it come off when you switched to copper coil? I’m starting to get nervous about having it fitted on Friday

@Ruru313 yes I did and it did come back off and my moods improved really quickly. Try not to be nervous for Friday, it is a little uncomfortable but worth it , keep as calm as you can and breathe deeply . If you can take 2 paracetamol or ibuprofen half hour before the appointment as you can feel quite crampy at first after the fitting and it's normal to have a little spotting first few days but it all settles down .

ginforall · 03/05/2023 21:16

@Ruru313 I didn't gain weight on the mini pill, but definitely had the stress, low mood and lack of sex drive. I thought I was just stressed with busy work and life, but coming off the pill has made me feel so much better. I'm wanting the cooper coil too so as to avoid anything involving hormones. Hope it goes well on Friday.

Nice to hear a positive experience @Tittyfilarious81, thank you.

I had the 10 year copper coil removed to ridiculously heavy bleeding. I now have the mirena and no bleeding at all!

If you’re going fo the copper, I’d have the 5 year one, not the 10.

insatiableme · 03/05/2023 22:26

My periods were allot heavier and very painful with the copper coil.

Ruru313 · 04/05/2023 07:53

Thank you so much I will post on Friday to let you know how it went

I would have mirena but it’s similar to the mini pill and im not having a good time on it at the minute I want to go hormone free and see if it improves my mental health etc..

I’ve been doing a lot of reading up on it and a lot of people have said this about the 10 year one and people had positive stories about the 5 year so I think I may ask for this one.. is this an option do I just ask at the clinic for the 5 year then?

I understand this will happen but at the minute I have no periods at all so I would rather have a heavier period with a bit of pain than have my mental health deteriorate even more than it has on the mini pill

Thank you so much for your reply this has give me some reassurance, praying for a miracle at this point 😂 the nurse has told me to take pain killer before the appointment she also said to make sure I have eaten as it can help afterwards I’m unsure why this would matter but I’ll do it anyway

@Ruru313 yes you can ask for the 5 year 1 , I've never been offered the 10 year coil mine have always been 5 and Ive just had my 3 rd 1 done .

FlibbedyFlobbedyFloo · 04/05/2023 09:26

I don't cope well with hormonal contraception and have now had a copper coil for 4 years. Insertion wasn't fun, but that varies from one person to another. It's been so much better for me in terms of mood, libido, etc

Ruru313 · 04/05/2023 09:50

Hearing the positive stories is reassuring thank you all so much.

I have 3 kids a teenager and two toddlers I’m in desperate need of it to help my moods I feel like I’m just so snappy at everyone over the slightest things hopefully this will make me a happier less hormonal mummy 🤞🏼

@Ruru313 I really think it will help you alot , I really didn't realize how bad it was on that pill until I came off it and I felt so much better . Best of luck tomorrow .

Fumnudge · 04/05/2023 10:46

I'm on my 3rd copper coil and insertion pain varies but never unbearable (drs seem to have trouble inserting mine so there's a lot of faffing and attempts). I've also have 1 Mirena coil for 3 months - I don't react well to hormone based contraception and that was no exception.
The joy of not having to even consider contraception and no side effects. I was a horrid, moody, shouty person on all pill versions 😔
I always had heavy periods before and the 1st one on the coil was v heavy/flooded so be prepared just in case.

Ruru313 · 04/05/2023 11:49

Fumnudge this is me on the pill now, it got that bad me and my partner actually split in December on Christmas Eve because of how my moods where, thankfully we worked it out tbh they’re not as bad as they where but it can switch with the click of a finger so that’s why I booked the coil appointment, it’s crazy what is women have to go through I will keep you all posted tomorrow and let you know how my appointment went I’m having a smear done at the same time as I’ve never had one done

Fumnudge · 04/05/2023 12:31

Good luck, it was a game changer for me.

Tittyfilarious81 · 05/05/2023 09:30

@Ruru313 Hope everything goes well today

Ruru313 · 05/05/2023 11:33

Hey everyone , it went very well, I barely felt a thing I don’t know what I was worried about just a bit crampy but nothing to bad I went shopping straight after 😂

Tittyfilarious81 · 05/05/2023 11:49

@Ruru313 Great news , glad it went well and now you can get off the awful pills

Ruru313 · 05/05/2023 11:55

Honestly can’t believe how fast it was over in all that worrying for nothing, she said it had helped cause I had 3 natural births, I took one this morning but thank god I can throw them out and stop taking them

ginforall · 06/05/2023 13:45

Really pleased to hear it went well @Ruru313, thanks for updating. My appointment is a week on Monday, hopefully I will have a similar experience.

Ruru313 · 08/05/2023 20:15

Honestly it’s been great, I didn’t feel no pain at all my period started on Sunday and tbh it’s actually not as bad as I thought it would be it’s a bit heavier than my usual periods but I haven’t had any pain and my moods have improved massively and it’s only been a few days. Wish I had of done it sooner xx
