Bleeding on cerelle

Hi
I’ve been on Cerelle (on & off between having babies) for 7 years now. Normally I have no bleeding whatsoever.

about a month ago I started getting period cramps - also unusual for me. A week later I started a period. Lasted 7 days. Then 4 days later I started again which is still going. I’m now on day 10 of bleeding.

i also feel awful! The cramps are horrendous, feel sick, headaches, constantly tired and could just sleep & get waves of feeling faint.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar?
im going to phone the drs in the morning but in the meantime was wondering if anyone has had similar?

Are you 40ish? I’m asking because I had a very similar experience and mine was linked to going into menopause. I started taking HRT - alongside the pill - and it stopped the bleeding.

Thanks so much for your reply.
I’ve just turned 31 🙈 maybe an early perimenopause 🤷‍♀️

I'm much older than you at 47 but after years of nothing I am now getting almost constant spotting. Going to make a doctors appointment this week but I am hoping like Xrays it just needs a top of HRT. Fingers crossed.

I haven’t been taking it for years like you have but I got this about a month into taking it, I bled for about 3/4 weeks in total I think - and some days it was very heavy with huge clots. Then it stopped and I’ve had no bleeding since <touch wood>. I preserved because my periods prior to starting it were awful so I wanted to see if it would settle down before giving up. I’m coming to the end of my third month on it now. My bloods were all fine so I’m not menopausal/peri menopausal yet.

I'm 36 and I found the same both times I tried it. I also tried the implant, awful. It's the progesterone that doesn't agree with me.

I'm booked in for a coil in a couple of weeks.

thanks so much for your replies!

just to update. Since writing the original post I’ve had a 3rd bleed in the same month. Finally got seen by a GP. Turns out I have a large polyp on my cervix so now waiting to be seen by a gynaecologist for it to be removed

I had this…for me I was on Cerezette and they switched me to Cerecelle (a cheaper one) and I started to bleed constantly. They did switch me back and that it would get better and to keep going but it didn’t. I bled almost constantly for five months before I gave up and now I don’t use any hormonal contraception. Naturally, I have a four day light flow (which is good) but it’s every three weeks (which is annoying). I don’t know why it worked and then it didn’t.

Cherryana · 07/05/2023 08:25

Oh sorry, I must have been writing my reply when you posted the update. I hope you get sorted soon and best of luck.

diddy92 · 07/05/2023 11:35

I was swapped to cerazette a few years ago but didn’t respond well to it all. I also bled constantly and had cramps as strong as contractions so I was swapped back to cerelle again

Thankyou so much 😊 I’ll keep updating incase it helps anyone else in future

This is so helpful - I've recently restarted cerelle too (and about your age!) and having the exact same issue. I'll ring my GP and try to see if they can slot me in!

I’m pleased it’s helpful 😊
definitely! It’s always better to have peace of mind!
