Spotting between periods.. is that normal?

Recently, I’ve had mild spotting in between periods for the last few months.

I asked a gynaecologist if it was something to worry about and she told me to try and reduce stress in my life (🙁 I did have a lot of intense stress in the last few months).

anyone else had spotting between periods? How seriously should I take it?

It has happened to me a couple of times - each time my GP has referred me for a scan. GP never mentioned anything about stress!

Was the gynae specifically examining you regarding the spotting (ie you had been referred, tests were done and everything came back clear?

If so, yep, if checked - nothing to worry about - could be ovulation bleeding or indeed lack of ovulation bleeding. Could be peri related. If it has been checked out (eg a scan) then just a pain.

If this was a random, unrelated chat with a passing gynae (ie you personally have not been medically checked) I would suggest you mention it to your GP - as it can be a symptom of issues in your uterus (fibroids/polyps etc)

Not normal. Please see your GP

I have had this almost every month for nearly 4 years. Nobody has been able to find a cause. Eventually after multiple GP appointments I got referred for an ultrasound and they found a huge cyst on one of my ovaries, but apparently it's a coincidence and "unlikely" to be causing the bleeding! I'm having surgery to remove the cyst soon and they are going to do a hysteroscopy at the same time to check my womb, and blood tests to check for PCOS or thyroid issues. Who knows 🤷 every doctor I've spoken to seems unconcerned and that it's really common.

I’ve had this almost every month for 5 years and back in 2020 was constant for 4-5 months. I’ve just had a scan as the same thing happened and it’s been constant since December, I will have to see doc for results but they said they hadn’t seen anything to worry about, also had a normal smear and normal CA125.

I guess it depends on your age? Mine started at 45, I’m 50 so it’s almost certainly peri related. What I will say is go and get it checked as the worry just gnaws away in the background.

hope all turns out ok.

Thank you for the advice. Yes, I'll get it checked out.. the unspoken anxiety is getting to me..

Hi did they find out what was causing it? I'm having the same atm

Pushkinini · 02/09/2023 18:23

Do get checked out. I had this at 47 and put it down to peri menopause. My Dr was unconcerned as well, but referred me for a scan anyway. Turned out I had endometrial cancer. Fortunately it was caught early and three and a half years later, I'm still cancer free.

It's very, very during peri-menopause.

Did you find out what it was? X
