Gas on period - making it heavier??

This is a weird one but wondered if anyone had the same.
I have a massive correlation between cramps and heaviness of bleeding. If I'm cramping then I know I'm bleeding a lot and if I'm not cramping then I know I'm barely bleeding.
I read that period cramps can give you wind because the prostaglandins act on your bowels as well. And I notice sometimes on day 2/3 of my cycle I'll have some gas and gas pains for a few hours and also bleed more heavily during that time, and I always think the gas pains are masking the period cramps a bit but I must be cramping and that's why I'm bleeding more heavily and that's causing the gas too.
Last night though, I'd eaten two bean burgers for lunch so when I started getting a lot of gas I knew exactly why, and it didn't feel like I had period cramps too. But when the gas died down my tampon was full and clotty. So, I knew period cramps can cause gas but I didn't know it worked the other way around too! Very weird. Anyone else ever had this?
